I just got done listening to D'Antoni on "Mike & Mike" over on ESPN Radio. When asked what his reaction was when he was called into the office and told Shaq was available he responded with, "....after I picked myself up off the floor" .......he then continued on with the only question lingering in his head was "how much did he have left" and after he talked with him he was convinced he was and feels a change of scenery is a big factor here with the other players he's got. He also said, "You guys have been debating this for 24 hours now and most of you feel no. I think you're wrong. I think he's going to have a profound effect on this team. Our medical guys think his issues are correctable." That comment is even taken further by Kerr's comments in the AZ Republic:

............I think at this point you can stop speaking on behalf of D'Antoni.

Yep, let's see when he can start playing and how many games he can play and hope for the best.

And I'm not speaking on behalf of him, just from what I read/heard/seen, initially, this was Kerr's idea, not Mike. Like SDU said, though, Nash and Amare were pushing for him as well, so that's the good sign.

You call me b*tching, so what. Just like when people keep b*tching about Sarver being a cheap owner or what-not and keep making threads about it. I think I'm free to voice my displeasure and my opinions of the decision they made. At least I didn't spam the board with my b*tching. Of course what's done is done and I'll have to get used to either watching him on the court or watching him on the bench in street cloth.

I'm not off the bandwagon. I've been watching the Suns since the Barkley era, not a local fan but I love this team and will always support them.

I made it through the atrocious Barkley deal. Called it crap. Turned out to be crap.

I made it through the awful Kidd trade. Said it was bad. Got us nowhere.

I praised the Marbury trade, and it turned out to be one of the best moves this franchise has made.

I've endured moronic draft-pick and expiring contract dumping and I'll endure this unfortunate error in judgment.

It took half of a season for the Barkley trade to be undone, but unfortunately, I'll probably have to wait two years for the damage of the Shaq trade to be remedied.

I would love to be proven wrong. Just like when I said Boris Diaw is nothing but a garbage time player. I was wrong. I hope Shaq can prove me wrong this time too. But right now this trade appears to be one of the worst. Shaq is done, he was done last year, this year he just can't hide it anymore and it's not worth $20 million on this team.

Please prove me wrong

you don't want to wait and see how Shaq performs in the playoffs? because he did tell Steve Nash "I Won't Let You Down".

A motivated Shaq can do a lot. He said he'd meet with health trainers before and after practice to get back into his old form. So if it works, it would make steve Kerr look like a genius

Shaq's major concern is not his ability, but his legacy. He'll be doing everything he can to bring in another ring, this isnt a retirement plan for him, its a chance to prove himself again. The Suns are a very good fit for Shaq in my opinion, for a few reasons:

1) The opportunity to grind out the end of games in half court offence with a big guy whos been there and won that in the past. Vital in a 7 game series.

2) New look, new style Suns wont be "the same old advance scouting report." Other teams will have to figure out ways to combat the new look Suns.

3) Rotation heaven. I think this is a beautiful move for playoff basketball. You'll be starting big and finishing big with Shaq & Amare in the lineup, playing 20-30mins a game, you'll still be able to run and gun with Amare and Diaw and Hill in the frontcourt for atleast half the game, Shaq gets rested, comes in fresh for the last 8 minutes of the game, steadies the ship.

4) Face it, Phoenix was TOO small. If Amare gets in foul trouble you're in a hole running Skinner and Marion in the block, it forced Amare to be a matidore on defence because if hes gotta sit you're team has no big presence.

5) While Diaw isnt as athletic as Marion and not as good a defender I think hes able to fill Marion's role adequitely. The plus for Pheonix is you create another role on the team and fill a big hole in your roster.

Face it, Pheonix was better a year ago than they are this year, and they couldnt win it all then (debatable still, I know). They needed to make a move and this one, while carrying alot of risk, also has the most potential to push you over the line.

Time will tell, but until Shaq goes down with a season ending injury, its a good move.

Leave it to a non-suns fan to sum it up perfectly. Good post.
