Dragic has always been a bad defender. Even last year opposing PGs lit him up. We gave up more pts defensively to PGs last year with Goran than we did with Nash at point.

>implying Dragic didn't have Tucker/Dudley/Johnson to guard the opponent's PGs. Usually after seeing Dragic get lit up, we actually switched Dragic onto one of the weakest offensive players on the court.

We didnt use Tucker (guarded forwards almost exclusively), Dudley (typically guarded the slower wing) or Johnson (hardly played, sucks on D anyway) on point guards last year.

Here's the reason that I'm excited about Hornacek right now: After 3 of our wins this season, he has said that he hated how we played and that we played sloppy and that he's not satisfied at all but he will take the win.
Most coaches, especially rookie coaches will be content with wins and probably not push their players that hard after the wins. Hornacek? Different story. And I love that.

N THE ARENA: The crowd of perhaps 7,000 to 8,000 (official attendance was announced at a season-low 13,154) could have been the smallest since the building opened in 1992. A NASCAR race and an NFL game were being playing in the Valley of the Sun on Sunday.
Daaaamn. What's sad is that the Suns are playing better and are definitely more fun to watch than the Cardinals.

Other than Jason Smith's mid-range game, our bigs were very good on defense with very active hands. Including Frye. And that block/dunk sequence end of the game, holy ****.

Does anyone have a gif of the block dunk sequence? I've watched all the highlights and can't find it, was it the block by Bledsoe on Davis?

Why do people say stuff like this? It's like they never watch a game, and have zero clue that tons of screens are made to free up pgs. It then becomes the (usually a big) guy guarding the screener responsibility to defend.
There is so much more to the game than one on one basketball.

This x10000000000.
Especially if you're against a mediocre three point shooting PG in Holiday, youd rather dare him to shoot the 3 than drive+dish to Morrow/Gordon for the open three by going under the screen anyway, thus "leaving him open."

Re: Game 7: Pelicans @ Suns
The game was incredibly sloppy from both sides for the first 3 quarters. The Suns had plenty of chances to build a comfortable lead and and I had a feeling they might get punished for wasting them. The Pels stayed alive mostly because of that Smith guy. Luckily, the 4th quarter went as planned.
Archie Goodwin was a pleasant surprise in this one. He really can develop into a great player under Hornacek.

Well if that's the case then I guess there really aren't any bad defenders in the NBA at all, its just a bunch of teams who are bad at defense. So Nash, Harden, Ellis etc shouldn't keep getting flamed for their defense.
Defense is a lot about 5 guys playing together and concentrating but it also has a lot to do with a player's ability to keep up with another, a player's passion and effort to give it your all on the defensive end and a player's instincts.
