Was able to watch the game, here's my analysis / play-by-play while watching the game...
1st quarter. Two threes from Kaminsky that just rimmed out. A missed layup by Saric that should have went in. JJ Redick was scorching hot. Ball hit two consecutive jumpers, his shot looks a lot better than last year. They are double-teaming Booker whenever he asks for a pick, almost seems Booker is having a tough time finding the open man in these type of situations I've noticed recently. Okobo's three also looked good but rimmed out. Pelicans played a full court press that resulted in Diallo having an open lane but defense collapsed on him, he had two open shooters on each wing in Booker and Cam, probably could have hit them but instead misses a contested layup. Later, Cam Johnson hits a three in the same spot he was in earlier. Holiday hits a tough layup over Bridges. Okobo hits a circus layup with the and 1. He's looked really good in the 1st. Booker again, struggles in the pick and roll to end the quarter.
2nd quarter. Seemed to be some kind of confusion defensively as to who is guarding who that leaves Moore open for a three. These kind of situations shouldn't happen to a veteran team. Carter with back to back mid-range jumpers. Wow, Holiday hits a three off the dribble in front of Diallo's face, that's a tough shot to hit. Good backdoor cut by Oubre to get a foul and two free throws. Bridges takes his first shot (I think) and makes it. I really hope he finds his rhythm offensively. The Pelicans have gotten a few offensive rebounds that they probably wouldn't get if we even had Baynes. Moore hits a three despite the close defense by Carter. Kaminsky misses a layup. Misses another one but got bailed out by the foul. Johnson's wide open three is too strong. Really bad pass out of a pick by Booker that results in Ingram being fouled on the other side. Again though, Booker is struggling out of picks. We've been fortunate this quarter with the Pelicans missing shots, though most are well contested. Ingram got a lot of FT's this quarter too. Saric misses an easy layup, typical of our bigs but at least he got FT's. Williams of the Pelicans misses an easy layup so we got that going for us. Oubre ends the quarter with a made three. Up 7 at half.
3rd quarter. Booker makes a great feed to Kaminsky that leads to a foul, unfortunately no free throws since Kaminsky was looking to pass. Redick hits a long three. Wide open three by Ingram too. Booker hits a long three. Redick in the face of Saric, wow. Pelicans have made 7 of 7 shots to start the 3rd quarter. Redick in the face of Kaminsky now. Ball with a three in the corner because of poor coverage by Oubre, 10 for 10 to start the quarter by the Pels. Okob hits a three, good to see making shots. Apparently no one wants to miss on the Pels because Melli hits a three in the corner. Booker with another bad possession out of the pick. Ball on the other hand hits a cutting Melli off the pick and roll, Booker take notes. Diallo with a nice block on Ball, but Redick hits a jumper off the inbound play right after. Okobo definitely looks like he's earned more time. I could see us comfortably trading Ty Johnson with Okobo's development. Moore has killed us off the bench has 14 points thru 3 quarters. Carter with good defense to end the quarter. Pels up by 1 95-94.
4th quarter. Bridges is getting more comfortable with his role on the team. Melli hits another three. Bad defense by our bench unit that gives the Pelicans a 9 point lead to start the quarter. Jesus another difficult jumper by Jrue with defense on him. Oubre with two good drives to the bucket. Booker with a good pocket pass to Kaminsky who gets blocked going to the rim. Had that been Ayton I'm sure that's an And1 opportunity. Booker misses a wide open three that was setup by Ty Johnson's steal on the other end. Ingram misses a three at the top of the arc only for no one on the Suns to hustle for the easy rebound, Moore gets it and finds Ingram open for another three and hits that one. That's the type of play you gotta make to win the game. Moore hits a three, and then makes a layup. Can't have these kind of players have such big nights. Damn, Ingram hits a tough mid-range shot over Ty Johnson. Cam Johnson's three just rims out, unlucky there as that would have cut the lead to one. Ingram with a huge block on Ty. Oubre misses a wide open three. Ingram with a tough layup and1. Booker seems to make sloppy passes in the last three minutes, he should only look to score and only make easy passes in these situations.
Overall, I wasn't too disappointed with our efforts tonight. Guys were hot on the Pelicans. Probably should have played better against Moore. Redick, Ingram, and Jrue I expected to play well, though I didn't expect Redick to shoot this amazing. I liked what Okobo did, Bridges, Oubre, and Cam played great too. Tough to win when we are so depleted with Ayton, Rubio, Baynes, and Jerome out. Moral victories don't yield wins but it's good to know we didn't lose to a Pelicans team if we had our entire roster available.
