You arent...it's just craziness. Honestly, i'd rather have MCW than Smart, and he could be had for a 2nd.

Marcus Smart is playing 30 minutes per game on a playoff team. Brad Stevens is not crazy.

He is 22 years old and he is a very VERY good defender. If you go to the Celtics board with that offer they probably are gonna say "no, thank you" because they value him a lot.

A guy who is a career 36% shooter is not worth a good C and a potential lotto pick. I'll openly admit that i dont watch the Celtics nor the Bucks last year but:

Smart this season
29.7 mpg - 10.9 PER
9.7/4.0/4.3
1.24 Steals
0.38 Blocks
36.3% from the field

MCW last season
30.5 mpg - 14.0 PER
11.5/5.1/5.2
1.74 Steals
0.76 Blocks
45.2% from the field

After putting up those numbers Williams was traded for Tony Snell. I would really like someone to explain how Smart has SO MUCH more value.

I watch Celtics games and my friend is a die hard celtics fan so I have a good perspective on Smart IMO...

He is not a box score guy.

He is a Tony Allen type player... Amazing defender but poor shooter. But has the body and atheleticism to be a menace in the defensive end.

Celtic fans love him.
He is valuable because he can guard PGs, SGs and SFs at an elite level.

I LOVED Smart in college. He is great to watch. He is a very por man's Westbrook, but I don't think he can ever be an integral part of a contender. Maybe like an 8th man. Of if you had offensive studs at the other 4 positions perhaps he could start with them, but I don't consider him much of a value now.

Smart would be handy as a shut down defender on a grind down team with reliable offensive players around him... Like the Grizzlies or Larry Brown Pistons....

I believe the same as well.

If we traded for Smart, we'd end up paying him 3x as much as we pay PJ, and we crap on him every night he plays.

I went to the 'comments' section for the Celtics game last night on ESPN. Many C's fans are talking about the need for rim protection.
With the talk of how solid Marcus Smart is, I really wonder how much they value him, compared to getting to the next level.
I wonder if they would do a trade involving Chandler and Tucker (to semi replace what they'd lose in Smart) for Smart and salary filler. That might be what people suggested but I think it makes too much sense for them.
For the Suns, we would have a young piece to put us on the right path for building a contender IMO. Defense first.

EDIT: Looks like Chandler/Tucker for Smart/Amir Johnson would work (in the trade machine). Dunno how valuable Johnson is to them. He only played 15 min last night. We could then cut him (he's an expiring) or trade him and continue with our youth movement.

The youth is the biggest difference. And he has experience playing for a successful franchise and playoff team.

I think they value Smart quite a bit. Fans really seem to. He plays close to 30 minutes a game so Stevens seems to as well.

Smart reminds me of Andre Roberson... He'd be much more appealing if he could hit 3's.

Combining a few rumours...

Suns out: Knight, Chandler, Tucker
Suns in: LAL 1st, Gay, Pekovic (done)

Undoes the Knight trade at a cost of eating Pek's deadweight salary (we have the cap to do so) and giving up a few useful pieces. Gay is an expiring who can see out the year at SF until Warren gets his head together.

PHX
Bledsoe, Ulis
Booker, Barbosa
Gay, Warren
Bender, Chriss
Len, Williams

-----------------------

Kings out: Gay, Collison, Cauley-Stein*
Kings in: Knight, Tucker

*interchangeable with Labissere, Papagiannis

Knight for Gay is generally accepted as a wash value wise, while Cauley-Stein is included because they get long term value for expirings. Unclogs their young frontcourt logjam of WCS/Labissiere/Papagiannis.

Wolves out: Dunn, Pekovic
Wolves in: Cauley-Stein*, Chandler, Collison

They have 2 young Prospects fighting over the backup PG minutes and currently Jones is the better option. PG Is the most saturated position in the league and it will be worse after next year's draft. They swap out for youth at a more valued position and also drop Pek's contract for 2 useful veterans.

Sixers out: LAL 1st
Sixers in: Dunn

Sixers were apparently targeting Dunn in the last draft. They might be able to land a better PG in the upcoming draft with the Lakers pick, but why not use the remainder of the season getting a leg up with the guy you've already done your research on? If they could flip Noel for a guy like Hield or Gary Harris, and nab Jackson next year, they are scary.

Knight makes the front page of realgm!

All I ask for is good value in return. At this point, I don't really care who we get as long as the value is there.

In the comment field, someone suggested Monroe for Knight straight up. I really hope we don't do that. If we did that trade, it would mean Sarver has control of McD and his days as GM may be numbered IMO

Yes, but what's good value?

I've stated that I think Rondo + 2017 1st ought to be on the table from Chicago. Net of all McD trades, that's Gortat + LAL '17 for CHI/SAC '17. That's one rusty spoon.

I think the only way McD could manage to delay cashing out on his investment in BK is to cash in on Eric. There, we have essentially turned a second round pick into a player whom I would value at around 2 firsts.

Then again, from what we've seen so far, Ulis and Bled actually play pretty well together. Perhaps rusty spoon it is. A couple second rounders would make that medicine go down a bit smoother.

Out of politeness, they should give us Snell and Beasley as well. Of course, we would promptly waive them.

Frankly, the only way Knight goes back to Milwaukee is if Giannis requests it. I can't imagine it.

IMO the Bulls would actually be a decent fit for Knight. They need to get better now after signing Wade, and Knight could play next to Wade a la Mario Chalmers, with Wade and Butler handling the rock 90% of the time and Knight focusing on spot-up shooting. They also said they want to get younger and more athletic, and Knight checks both those boxes.

I still think Knight could be good in a limited role, with guys like Wade or Butler to keep him in line. Or say if he was on the Spurs, having Pop pull him and scream in his face for a minute after he does something dumb. He needs that. This year Watson told him to chuck to his heart's content. Last year he was hurt and he was the only offense besides a rookie Devin Booker.

What about watching Knight the last 2 years suggests he is capable of this. I'm not trying to be rude I'm genuinely curious if you see something the rest of us don't.

Yeah, he just doesn't know/want to be an spot-up shooter.

At this point I want him traded for a minor prospect or late pick. I don't see any team giving a lottery pick for him, ther are too many players at his position in the league.

There was a small period last season where he played off-ball next to Bledsoe before he got hurt and he looked good, at times really good. He was spotting up a bunch. After Bled got hurt the offense ran through him and Booker and it was terrible. This year the offense once again runs through him with the bench by Watson's design. I'm positive if Watson paired him off-ball with Ulis he'd look good.

Right now, Tyler Ulis might be our best player. Or at least, he's the player I most enjoy watching ATM.

Knight to the Bulls would not be a bad idea. What do we get back in that miraculous trade?
