Contained in the world? U.S.? NBA? It's certainly not going to stop spreading. The mortality rate is just probably a lot lower than people think, especially for those under 60 years old (mostly under 70) unless you have an underlying condition. If someone under 50 catches it, their chances of mortality are like 1 in 400-500.

Of course any virus can adapt and change to become more deadly. But this won't be contained really. Especially in the U.S. The only thing that might stop it or slow it down is when it gets really hot, but I still read it stays alive for days if a cough particle gets on a surface and it's in the 90s.

Some doctor came out and said they expect half the population to get it.

As long as cocroaches and rats don't be affected, I owe an inexhaustible source of proteins (they procreate way faster than I can depredate them).

I just need to figure out the veggie stuff...

If mold is edible maybe I could get that covered too... I'll let you know.

Just an educated guess...

Maybe Sunsbum made a typo.

In reality, this coronavirus has probably been in the US for several months and we're only seeing the number of cases increase so drastically because we know to test for it. How many people go about their lives feeling "under the weather" and never go to the hospital? How many people over the last several months went to a Dr and were just told they had a cold or flu because we didn't know to test for this?

Yeah, I know it's widespread already. Just no testing.

I read this somewhere and I believe this is the case. I had a pretty bad flu in late last year that really **** with my chest. Obviously I cant self diagnose myself but it did seem more "sticky" than usual as it just hung on for a little under a week.

If you've followed any of the quarantine stories (ie Diamond Princess, etc), there have been people that have tested virus-free REPEATEDLY while under quarantine, then test positive on their fifth tests. Some people have even tested clean, been released, then a test comes back positive. The entire management of this thing has been a shite-hole.

Self-diagnosing doesn't really mean a thing. A virus that runs through my house could knock my wife and daughter out for days, but could only affect me for a day or less, and vice-versa. It's all dependent on the individual. There's been a lot of talk about carriers of COVID-19 who show zero signs of illness but are still contagious, and some people get sick but don't pass it on to anyone else.

Side note: I think this just confirms that Gobert is the greatest defensive center in the NBA - he's single-handedly kept the entire NBA scoreless for the foreseeable future.

Every other virus like bird and swine and h5n1 were really worrying. SARS, MERSA. It's weird to me that this one is the one that breaks the camel's back. It's more transmittable but way less deadly. You can't contain it because almost no one actually gets really sick from it unlike the other viruses.

How long will the suspension last?
The regular-season stoppage will be at least two weeks so all players affected can go through quarantine and, one hopes, be cleared of the virus. In reality, it probably will be longer. By comparison, when the virus broke out in China, the Chinese Basketball Association suspended play in late January. The CBA is in the process of resuming play in early April, roughly a 10-week layoff.

What will NBA teams do in the meantime?
That is unclear. Mavericks owner Mark Cuban said Wednesday night that the league had said teams could continue to practice. However, that might not be practical if there was widespread self-quarantine in the short term.

Will the players be paid?
Almost certainly yes. It is in everyone's interest for the league to continue playing at some later date to allow both the NBA and its players to finish the season and make the money the league normally would have been expected to.

There is, however, a provision in the collective bargaining agreement that would allow for the league to not pay players for missed games during extreme events, including an epidemic.

Per ESPN's Bobby Marks:
According to the Collective Bargaining Agreement, Article XXXIX, section 5, players lose 1/92.6 of their salary for every game missed as a result of a Force Majeure Event ("FME") -- this refers to events or conditions that makes it impossible for the NBA to perform its obligation under the CBA.

The following events are covered: "wars or war-like action (whether actual or threatened and whether conventional or other, including, but not limited to, chemical or biological wars or war-like action); sabotage, terrorism or threats of sabotage or terrorism; explosions; epidemics; weather or natural disasters, including, but not limited to, fires, floods, droughts, hurricanes, tornadoes, storms or earthquakes; and any governmental order or action (civil or military); provided, however, that none of the foregoing enumerated events or conditions is within the reasonable control of the NBA or an NBA Team."

The financial cost is a big reason there is the expectation, according to sources, that the current season will resume at a later date, even if that means the 2020-21 season starts later than expected.

Read on Twitter

They made the right move suspending the season. They need to figure out how wide spread this is amongst players before playing again.

There is not stopping this virus anymore, the goal right now is to slow down its spread so as to keep the sever cases under a manageable number and not completely overwhelm the healthcare system. Both Italy and China got overwhelmed and you ended up with healthcare professionals falling victim to the disease due to overwork and other diseases becoming more deadly as people where unable to access healthcare.
