Damn i miss Barkley so much. He would have floored him so Ferguson would never try this again.

Mark West and PJ Tucker too. Probably the Morri as well.

We don't need a goon but we need someone who other teams just think twice about.

Dare I say...Matt Barnes...

I'd say the closest player we have to a real dog out there on the court is Holmes. That guy plays with effort, with energy and he does the dirty work.

To be honest, the only time i doubted Igor was last night when he didn't play Holmes 25+ minutes. He was working under the basket like a horse. Sure he did some mistakes, but the effort was really there.

This will be extremely unpopular opinion probably, but if Ayton can't even show the effort, give Holmes more minutes. Until Ayton wakes up and realizes that MAYBE it's better for him to be WCJ type of guy. Which is great on D with huge potential for offense as well. I mean he could become an all around center who doesn't need to score 20+ points every game, but he should become a work horse and that will net you many more W's and an all star appearance easily.

And who knows, with proper players around him, maybe someday even a championship. But everyone is so fixated that he has to be this 30+ ppg guy who will carry the offense, but forget that centers these days are incredibly dispensable, unless they are awesome rim protectors.

This was essentially my whole point pre-draft on why I'm not in love with Ayton. Not because he's not talented or that Luka is necessarily the better player of the two but just that dominance offensively at the C position nowadays isn't really a requirement to be a great team whereas having multiple perimeter creators is.

Also Sarver and the front office won't allow Ayton, the #1 pick and the guy we essentially tank for 3-4 seasons for to play less minutes than a guy we traded a 2nd round pick for. Also, the guy is soft and I don't know if he'll rebound positively from the first 'benching' of his entire life.

Few people can score a lot of points on really high efficiency. It doesn't matter if it's a wing, guard or C. Most centers have good efficiency but don't score a lot. He needs to focus on his strengths, scoring and rebounding and work on his defense with film, practice, learning rotations, help D. You never should not utilize great strengths to focus too much on weaknesses. He can work on them while still dominating as a scorer and rebounder.

Djedefre wrote:With Ayton, we got EXACTLY what everyone here expected - rebounding, solid hands and finishing, good passing for size, tendency to escape from tight situations in/around the post with mid-range jay, inconsistent motor, questionable defensive effort, poor rim-protection and lack of acknowledgement of his own (terrifying) physical attributes and how to properly use them on the court. All this was demonstrated like million times at Arizona and simultaneously pointed out by pretty much every scout and draft geek out there.

He has enough time to work on his (numerous) flaws and it's reasonable to assume he'll only get better. But how much and how fast, depends mainly (but not solely ofc) on him - his effort and willingness to work on his game and strive for greatness.

After dunking on Davis Bertans, Ayton let loose with what his signature celebration at Arizona.

“That’s the Deandre I had to show from college,” Ayton said. “I don’t think this league wants that.”

The Suns and their fans do — and Ayton said he plans to show them more of that.

“Being in that moment, you know what your strengths are,” Ayton said. “Rebounding and going back up strong. I just got tired hearing people say I’m not aggressive. That’s basically a statement. That’s going to be consistent for the rest of my career, until I can't jump.”

I wonder if Ayton will become more comfortable being aggressive when he realizes that he's already the best player on our team.

Yes. I said it. When Ayton plays at 100%. He's the best player on our team.

I think Booker has been a bit frustrated with him. Some of Bookers recent media comments seems like subtle jabs at Ayton and his effort. A few games ago I saw him say "They can't stop you" to Ayton. It looked like he was encouraging him to be more aggressive.

What I find a bit confusing is how there seems to be little to no chemistry between Ayton and Booker. Perhaps it's a timing issue on PnR's because Tyson is slower and doesn't jump as high but last season the Booker/Chandler PnR alleyoop was one of the few things which seems to work with some kind of consistency and I expected Ayton would be able to run that same play but better. I feel like after 14 games, I've maybe seen them connect on an alleyoop dunk, maybe once?

I'm a bit surprised

Well, they didn't play Summer League or preseason together. I'm not overly concerned, they just need more time together.
SHAZAM!

Suns traded Mikal Bridges, Cam Johnson, Jae Crowder and 4 1st round picks and a swap so some Vegas Bookies would like us.

I just thought it would be more seamless than it is. I'm not worried, I'm just a bit surprised.

Ayton is like that gigantic football player who could dismember any other player with a full force hit, yet plays half speed because he doesn;t want to hurt anyone. ...until you get in his face and piss him off. Then bodies be flying everywhere.

In all seriousness, part of it is him probably wanting to play unselfishly. Once he realizes it's OK to look to score every damn time, he'll get into it. Especially if putting up 25-30ppg means endorsements, a max contract, exotic cars, and the ability to slam supermodels on a weekly basis.

My point wasn't that Ayton isn't playing with intensity or aggressiveness in those Booker/Ayton PnR situations (although he could set better screens), it was more that they haven't really connected at all. And it takes two to tango and Booker is the primary ball handler in those PnR set and he hasn't really been able to find Ayton despite Ayton rolling just as Tyson did.

Like yesterday with that play which ultimately ended up with Ayton posterising Bertans, it was initially off a very bad pass from Booker to Ayton. It's kind of weird and I think it's more Booker than Ayton. Even non-PG like Oladipo, Beal or McCollum would have connected with Ayton on a more consistent basis by now.

Ayton looked the best he's looked last night. Hopefully he improves on his block %...(this is ranked in order of block %)

Yeah, he's the only rookie with a TS% higher than Ayton also...though he's obviously not as good of scorer overall and doesn't play nearly the minutes.

Helluva draft class
