I think this was largely a no win situation for the FO, IT was always going to be insurence, in more ways than one. He was brought in because bledsoe's signing was taking too long and even if he had resigned there were still injury concerns. Dragic's best was when eric went down, and even then at his best he could only keep us around .500 ball during that period. A far cry from the record that we had with both of them. McD probably look at the situation, and thought "if bledsoe gets hurt again, Dragic would have to carry this load by himself, and would wear himself out before the playoffs even began, if we can even make the playoff." so he look at the market and the best player we can get, after all this LeBron postering, (who took like three weeks to finally tell us no) but at that point, IT was largely the only thing left. We should probably should have just traded Dragic during the summer, but McD couldn't do that with all the public backing goran had.
So yes McD probably had misstepped, but he was walking in a minefield. Maybe he did outsmart himself, but people make mistakes. That being said, he has done a lot for this franchise already. When you considered the state this team was when he inherited and damn near turned it around quickly. I do think he has a vision for this team, but hes been half stuck between two ideas because goran was here. Like i said before, Goran leaving was a band aid we needed to rip off, he is a great player but once the word 20 million was thrown around i think we are better off with out him. I would just be patient now, relax, see how his new moves turn out and let him work his game.
I agree with you on the 20 mln. IMO 20 mln is way too much for any NBA player. I think, though, that if things were ok, nothing of this had happened and the team was doing ok, that Dragic would have taken less to accommodate acquiring a quality big. With him being unsatisfied and all if he decided to stay he would have demanded that 20 mln just to punish the FO. No question, with all the cards on the table trades were inevitable.
About McD - seems to me he leans too much on technical analysis which leads to stockpiling and "get the BPA" no matter the position and team's needs. I mean it's good tacts if you play FIFA, but in RL....my 2 cents. Besides, even remotely hoping TheClown would go to Phoenix was delusional imo and McD risked too much (and swayed the off-season moves) with no chance to win.
