Frankly, since that's been his biggest criticism since college, I don't find it particularly promising. It took him 3 years to realize he needs to lose weight? Really? That's Diaw-esque.
Very Diaw-esque. After Diaw got his fat deal, he got fat, lazy and his production dropped. You can bet Sully will have a career year, look good and get a nice deal. Then who knows
That's not even the worst part. Sully weighs 15 pounds more than Diaw and is 10 years younger. Nothing against him, I think he is a solid player... just not for the Suns style of play. Square peg, round hole.
First, Boris Diaw came into the league at 6'8", 203 lbs, and now weighs 250lbs. Sullinger came in at 6'9", 268lbs, gained 12lbs to 280, and is, or will soon be, 260lbs.
So, a guy who is an inch taller weighs 10lbs more, and 8 lbs less than when he came in, whereas Diaw came in at 203lbs, then proceeded to balloon 47lbs. So, depending on how you look at it, will ultimately depend on which situation is worse, but to me, it shows that Sully's weight doesn't fluctuate tremendously.
Did anyone have an issue with Charles Barkley being 6'5" 250 lbs? Why, then, are you all so concerned about a guy who is 6'9", 260 lbs?
I'm not going to convince anyone otherwise, but I fail to see how Sully doesn't fit in at 6'9" 260lbs. He'll get faster and more agile as he drops some weight. I, for one, wouldn't mind having someone with some weight at PF. PG? SG? SF? Of course not, but PF or C? Sure.
EDIT: And then just reading up a few posts, it boggles my mind even more about all this discussion how Sullinger doesn't fit this team and how he's a fatty, etc., when we have a 6'5" 260 lb PJ Tucker, who seems to fit this team just fine? So what I'm gathering is that it would be ok for a 6'5" 260lb player to play the 4, but somehow a 6'9" 260 lb player is too fat to play. Tucker has gained 35 lbs since coming into the league, and that's ok, but Sullinger losing 8 lbs since entering the league at and he's and out of shape oaf?
No, he's not a great 3PT shooter, but he makes up for that in a lot of other ways, like rebounding. I know that's a foreign concept for our PFs, but most other teams prefer to have PFs that can rebound. Not to mention, if Horny can mentor/teach other players (Goodwin), why can't he improve Sully's 3pt shot?
