People have said he has a jumper, but every mix video I see, is him doing dunks and thats it.
Does he really have a jumper, and is it as consistent as David Lee's jumper?
When he wants to, he can be a great player. Overall, he is a great assisted finisher, probably the best in the league. Near the end with PHX, he didn't get to the line half as much as he should have. Maybe he will have more luck in NY in that area, but he does get fouled often.
Expect some dumb things to come out of his mouth, and many promises. He does have a great jumper, and for the most part, he is extremely effective at it. He still has trouble passing out of the double team, plus he neglects slashers and cutters to try and make his own shot. If you guys can find a good pass first pg you will be happy with Stat.
He does still need to work on his boxing out and position for rebounding. He still turns his head on shots, instead of securing his man first. And he still allows his man to get set too far under the basket. His weak side help is decent, but through the years, he sometimes gets called for fouls instead of getting the block.
His freethrow shooting is good, and if the refs call it right, he should shoot a bunch. But with the new goggles, don't expect him to get his rebound if he misses the last freethrow (he is busy putting his goggles back on.)
He will most likely need another surgery on his knee in about two to three years, so there is a chance he will be out for a year.
Since his knee injury, he has shied away from contact, and is not as explosive as he once was. He can still throw down some sick dunks, but nowhere near what he used too.
With D'Antoni, he should do fine, and if his minutes are watched well, he could last past that third year without a surgery. But we all know Mike will play him as often as he can, and Amare will want to score as much as possible.
His defense is not the greatest, but when he wants to, he can be quite good. The only problem is he would rather play offense. Too bad for him that this isn't American football.
