Mock Draft Lottery (PG vs PF)

Post#1 » by bigfoot » Thu Feb 10, 2011 3:43 am

Okay I was playing around with ESPN's mock draft machine. I managed to play it enough times to get the Suns with the number one pick. Lo and behold it had us selecting Kyrie Irving. Apparently the gurus on other mock draft sites also believe the Suns most pressing need is a PG as they have us selecting Jimmer Fredette at #13.

For the future, it seems like we are set at the 2, 3, and 5 spots. If Nash holds up, the FO extends his contract, and he continues to play at a high level we will be set at the 1 spot for another 3-4 seasons. It would be clear that we should go for a PF. But ...

If there is uncertainty with Nash after next season which do need more a PG or a PF?

I say BPA, I think a lot of others feel the same way. I'd love to have Jimmer, and then get a solid rotation big with the Orlando pick. But we'll have to wait and see how it pans out

Suns traded Mikal Bridges, Cam Johnson, Jae Crowder and 4 1st round picks and a swap so some Vegas Bookies would like us.

If the BPA is a 2 or 3 will he be buried behind our glut of wings?

I pitty our team if we extend Nash for another 4-5 years.........

.....but i do think that we will be needing a PG in the draft. The way i see it, PG/SG that are drafted come more NBA ready, where with PF/C they usually takes year and years to develop. I say grab a PG (Walker), then trade for a PF like Hickson/Thompson.

Walker/Dragic/Childress/Hickson/Gortat.

Who are the current 2 and 3 you're talking about? Hill is almost 40, Dudley is a great backup and Pietrus sucks...

Looking around at some mocks i see one of them giving us Jimmer which is okay with me. Players they have after him are Kemba Walker and Klay Thompson who i love. I just like Terrance Jones, John Henson and Harrison Barnes. I'd really like to fill PG, SG, SF or PF with our lottery pick and pair VC plus ORL 1st to fill another one. Maybe another with the MLE.

nbadraft.net and DraftExpress both have us taking the Jimmer!

In terms of need, I think we need a PF more. Some size at the 4 spot would be nice. We're OK with Dragic at the 1 and if Dowdell comes along, he could be a decent backup to Dragic. The 4 spot is where we're a bit weak at the moment with Warrick being our only "true" PF if we don't count Lawal

BPA with PG or PF and I don't think we can go wrong.

Honestly, I don't have the time/patience for it, but you know who I'd look to for advice.

San Antonio. Just analyze all their drafts from that tank for Duncan on, and you'll have as good advice as you could ask.

I say get Fredette in the first, then with the Magic pick id get Kemba, Selby or Smith. 2nd rounds a crap shoot.

I would take the best PG, SF or PF available period. I feel that moving forward to start the rebuilding Gortat and Dudley should be the building blocks everyone else is expendable. With Nash and Hill retiring soon and Carter coming off the books this year and Pietrus the next we are in decent shape finacially; the only 2 bad contracts we have at this point are Warrik and JChill and if Chill is givin a solid 16-28 min a game backing up the 2-3 he may be able to start earning his contract once VC and pietrus are gone.

And I dont know why everyone keeps saying Dudley is "a good backup" the man put up good numbers every time he started with us as well as off the bench. Sure he isnt athletic but if his IQ, hustle and skill hasnt made you a believer by now i dont know what would short of being 8 feet tall.

Anyone else seen this?

http://82games.com/bestdraftingteams.htm

Ranks teams' success in the draft from 1989-2008.

1) Milwaukee
2) Phoenix
3) L.A. Lakers
4) San Antonio

Obviously a wee bit arbitrary. But still. You can't expect us to consistently get Steve Nash-types with mediocre picks. Can't turn crap into gold, and it's a statistical law that you should expect crap from the draft. I recommend LOWERED EXPECTATIONS.

I have absolutely no problem with Dudley starting for us, and I doubt Los Soles will either. Dudley playing next to NAsh will make him a deadly threat from outside. I actually think that Dudley starting at the Sg would be an upgrade over J-Rich when he was with us, purely because even though they do the same thing on offence, Dudley's defence and BBIQ is way higher than J-Rich's.

I wouldn't be upset if we went into next season with this lineup

Nash/Dragic/Pick
Dudley/Pietrus
Hill/Chilly
Frye/FA(Mbah a Moute?)/Pick
Gortat/ Lopez

I really like the way that looks. If we keep the cap holds we'll have in place without renouncing them, we can sign someone to the MLE and still be well under the lux tax.

My money is on a serious MLE target. Don't think we'll go the cap space route. We'll also have the Bi-Annual Exp to use on a player for roughly $2m.

I'd be really interested in what we could get in a DEN/Whoever trade for taking on Harrington with our TPE. It would have to be icing, but the guy is still playing at a high level.

What about KMart and Al for Vince and Warrick? Works for salary, they get out from under Al's salary, we swap big expirings

We get two bigs with different skill sets and KMart would likely comeback more fully here with our staff. He could be a beast for us

just a thought

i like Al but if we are trying to keep our core guys next season then i dont want KMart here. Chemistry is huge on our team and we can see that better than ever this season. KMart is just too 'thug' for the Suns. i sure do like the Al idea though!

Coud Martin play? Sure. But I think JohnnyV is going for him more as an expriring.

I like it from the Suns standpoint. Never thought about it this way.
