Larry Coon says the same thing I been saying...

Post#1 » by Mr. Sun » Mon Feb 22, 2010 11:44 pm

Many argue that James needs to be in a major market (namely New York or Los Angeles) from an endorsement standpoint. They often argue that a sponsor like Nike may be pulling strings to land James in a market where they can make more money. But does a superstar really need to be in a major market? James, Dwight Howard and Dwyane Wade seem to be doing just fine in Cleveland, Orlando and Miami, respectively.

Can you imagine James getting more media attention if he’s in New York or Los Angeles? Me neither. If you’re a star you need to be in a big market. If you’re a superstar, they come to you.

No way that any of the major FA peeps go to NY this summer.
The Phoenix Suns - 54-28. Projected Record: 54-28 3rd Seed

The Phoenix Suns - 2010-2011 Projected Record: 30-52 3rd lottery pick.

I hope Lebron goes to NY, no not because of the few Cavs fans thinking they could get Amare for nothing and talking smack but because it would be good for the NBA overall.

Lebron is big now but he will be even bigger in NY and would bring a jolt of excitement to the NBA, this is just what the NBA needs to become more popular and almost any NBA fan would want to see him in a bigger market (unless your a Cavs fan) besides Cleveland is one of the top 5 worst NBA cities to live in, I know Ohio is his home state but people relocate to different states/cities all the time.

Interesting, I could honestly see any of the top 4 (LeBron, Wade, Bosh & Stoudemire) changing cities with the least likely to end up in NY being Wade. I think he'll go to Chicago.

Its like if you got into the NBA and were good enough to CHOOSE where you landed... all else equal, wouldn't it be Phoenix?

No way LBJ or Wade goes to NYC. Only players who want to get overpayed will go there like Joe Johnson or Amare. I think Wade could end up in Chicago if Bosh or Amare don't go to Miami. I also think the Clippers could make a major push in FA this summer. They have tons of cap=space and LA is nice even if you're a Clipper.

These guys want to win championships, not be famous. They're already superstars. Why would they go some place that has no shot of winning in the next 3 years?

The only difference between LBJ in Cleveland and LBJ in NY is his face will be on more billboards in NY and that's only because there's more billboards to put his face on. It's likely he'll be making more endorsement money in NY but not significantly more. His most lucrative endorsement deals come from the top companies in America, like Nike and Mcdonalds and they pay him a sum of money but what he does not get paid more for being on more billboards, those companies do, in profits. It isn't like you won't find a Nike billboard with Lebron on it in NY or LA just because he's playing in Cleveland. Those companies would've already maximized his exposure in every major city in America and moving to a new locale would will not increase it significantly.

He'll probably get more media attention in NY but that's probably it. He'll make more side money (aside from his main endorsements) in NY, but his main source of endorsement income is going to stay the same. Besides, he gets more exposure from being in a top 3-4 team in the NBA by being with the Cavs anyway.

Probably not and DEFINITELY not with the current ownership.

It's certainly in the top tier of possible free agent destinations, but I think Miami would, for example, be better in the minds of most NBA players. No state income tax, beautiful weather, and you're on the beach.

Celebrities like to live in big media centers to be among themselves. LBJ will end up in either NY or NJ. Bosh has said he wants a team built around him, not playing second fiddle to a bigger star like LBJ or Wade.
So, if Amare stays in Phx. Wade will leave Miami for lack of supporting cast. I see he go to NJ with Boozer following him there. They might then trade Harris for some other help. But Brook/Boozer/Willams/Wade/Harris would be a great starting unit with Yi/Lee. Following this, the logical placements would be LBJ to NYC and Bosh to Chicago.

you wanna ruin your career, then go to NY. i mean seriously, all the "stars" that go there disappear from the face of the earth. I don't think NY lands a superstar this summer.

First of all, Amar'e won't be going to NYK because he doesn't like Coach D and there are many other big teams which are willing to sign him to a max

Second, I think Chris Bosh actually laughed at the idea of landing in NY
So, that's a no either

Third, Miami wants Wade back, and Wade loves Miami as well (though no guarantees of returning)
Chances of re-signing high, and even if Miami fails to do so, he'l be landing in Chicago instead of NY

Fourth, I don't think LBJ will go to NY, not because he's a loyal guy (which I don't think he is), but because NYK won't be able to give him the supporting cast he wants without trading away Wilson Chandler or Danillo Gallanari as well as many others

So my guess is they'll over pay someone and the fans get disappointed, again

I hope Lebron lands in NY. It'd be amazing to see that franchise, after so many years of suffering, to turn it around and compete at a high level. I still don't get how a franchise with so many fans base and support can suck so much. It's hard to imagine how poorly run the Knick has been over the years.

I was thinking something funny yesterday. Imagine if NY was able to land let's say LeBron and Bosh. Imagine that cap situation 2 or 3 years down the line! You'd have 2 players making $44 million or something. Crazy stuff..

Imagine a bench of D-leaguer's with two superstars.

Yep, sounds like the Knicks are headed in the right direction LOL.
