That's only if he really succeeds. Otherwise he would end up making less money, indeed a lot less, since he will be tied to the rookie contract for 4 years and he might also lose value in the European market in the meantime. He's a big star in Europe already, and could easily get a contract worthy around $4 million per year whenever his current deal expires (a deal that probably doubles already that first-round contract).
There still might be a possibility for him to avoid the first-round contract and get into the NBA. If he waits until the 2010 summer, he can be signed using cap money and possibly also (I'm not sure) the mid-level exception. Considering the salary structure of the current roster, it's highly unlikely that the Blazers will have any money under the cap in 2010 (they will probably have in 2009 for the last time in many years), but if the MLE works, it might become an option for him.
Still I think you guys will see him in town for the next season.
