I think Oden will give the Blazers about 5-8 more wins.
Rudy would probably add another 2-4 wins. (Guessing!!)

Either way I believe the Blazers are better off with
Rudy then without Rudy. It gives us another scorer.

8 more wins would put us winning 50+ games next season
and a solid 4 or 5 seed.

I'm wondering how much it would cost to sign Rudi. If it blows
a huge hole in our cap, is winning another 2 or 3 games worth
it?

We can only offer Rudy the rookie contract for his draft slot around 900K next year only two years guaranteed. That's why there's speculation that he stays in Europe to earn more money. In the long run, he will make more in the NBA and every year he delays will cut into that.

So unless he can command huge endorsement money playing in Europe then financially he's better off coming here next year.

He will cost us less than $1 million in cap space so even if he adds 2 wins it should be worth it.

Someone brought this up before but
maybe Rudy can get a shoe contract.

Maybe Mr. Allen can pull in a favor??

I would buy Air Rudys even if he doesnt come over here i love watching rudy play over in europe, and having paul allen makes me feel pretty confident that rudy will be a blazer next season, he would love it here, he would fit in well chemistry wise on this team and he would definantely become a fan favorite and i think he has been made aware of these things and knows what he has waiting for him in portland and that is an opportunity to be a special player on a great team. and with the success that ginobili and barboza and gasol and those guys he sees he can be successful as well.

That's only if he really succeeds. Otherwise he would end up making less money, indeed a lot less, since he will be tied to the rookie contract for 4 years and he might also lose value in the European market in the meantime. He's a big star in Europe already, and could easily get a contract worthy around $4 million per year whenever his current deal expires (a deal that probably doubles already that first-round contract).

There still might be a possibility for him to avoid the first-round contract and get into the NBA. If he waits until the 2010 summer, he can be signed using cap money and possibly also (I'm not sure) the mid-level exception. Considering the salary structure of the current roster, it's highly unlikely that the Blazers will have any money under the cap in 2010 (they will probably have in 2009 for the last time in many years), but if the MLE works, it might become an option for him.

Still I think you guys will see him in town for the next season.

He would be foolish to go into the NBA if he can get a long-term deal starting at $4 million in Europe. Sabonis didn't take less money to play in the NBA and I doubt he would've considered it. Rudy might never earn $4 million total salary in the NBA. Late draft picks aren't guaranteed big money in the NBA anymore. A late 1st round pick only gets the chance to prove themselves and most only prove they aren't good enough.

I haven't seen it mentioned in here yet, but I got my season ticket renewal package in the mail the other day, and in the opening letter from Larry Miller, he mentions adding Oden AND Rudy Fernandez to the team next year. Now, anything can certainly happen, but I am betting they have had more serious discussions with Rudy, and are pretty confident he is coming over to put that into the letter. Or, it's just their way of selling tickets, but I don't have much doubt he will be here next year.

It seems like most are making more out of a simple interview / article then needs to be made. However i have been a HUGE fan of getting Martell traded and IF Rudy does come then that is pretty likely to happen. However IF the Blazers are getting other signs maybe he is getting cold feet it makes thinking about trading Martell harder to consider.

Rudy & Webster dont play the same spot
so im not sure it would matter. If anyone
is moved because of Rudy it would be
Jack. However if Rudy turns out to be
a good shooter it does make Webster
a little less needed for the most part.

But Webster has been getting better
in other areas. He isnt consistent tho.

So you want to trade webster, not caring for who? I'm sorry, I don't think you give up/away on a guy with that much potential.
