For the second time NO has dumped for financial reasons a young functional big and kept Swanigan. It is like Groundhog Day.

Skal was a good rotation player, thought we did better with him than skal on the floor than Hasan. Oh well, hopefully a hasan dump coming before 12

I can’t blame the blazers, I don’t think Skal is the difference between the 8 seed and missing the playoffs and Memphis got better today so they might beat us out anyhow

Olshey could trade a dust bin in the office for cash considerations and fans here would still complain the Blazers got screwed.

Except Portland PAID to get rid of a player who played solid rotation minutes for them.

Oh sorry, I forgot all fans have to pay that bill... :eyeroll:

Seriously, who gives a **** if Portland paid something cash to another team. That literally effects nothing but Jodie Allen’s pocketbook.

Maybe, but Skal is far from an office dust bin.

Fair, he also was no world beater. He’s still a 10th-15th man off the bench for any competent team.

My post was more just in reference to how this forum does this overreaction annually whenever there’s a salary consideration move made.

It effects the Blazers ability to buy a 2nd rounder this year. Or to facilitate other trades.

Perhaps some here are not so concerned that a mult-billionaire has an extra few million to store. Indeed, even with very conservative investing, she will have more than any penality would have cost, by the end of the year.

Its not just that we dumped a functional big. I didn't want to resign him for what I though he would cost FWIW. Its that we dumped a functional big while having no big man depth. There is no guarantee Zach or Nurkic come back this year, and if they do they will be rusty. So are a team supposedly fighting for the playoffs we have conceded Caleb Swanigan as one of two fully healthy bigs for the rest of the year.

It's not even a few. They save $2.7M without actually getting under the tax. Just garbage.

Never considered Skal (or the equally treated Vonleh) as a world beater. But he is a young big who already does things which contribute on the court. He also has the potential, even displayed it somewhat, of being what he once was as a high schooler, one of the top players in his class. Oh well, that's someone else's concern now. Happy that Ms. Allen keeps a few more million.

Did Portland at least get a bag of donuts for Skal?

I liked Skal and was hoping he was the backup when Collins is healthy and becoming an All Star (eye roll) and Melo leaves. He could have been the third big next year when Whiteside leaves, as well. He wasn't an outstanding player, but I did like what he brought (offense and okay defense).

Nope.. they had to buy a bag of donuts. Break out some kneepads, and put on some chapstick.

I'm going to lose it when Olshey comes out with his snake-oil bull.

What is Cleveland up to? Drummond, Love, and Thompson up front. Is someone else leaving that we haven't heard about yet?

I guess their play is more for next year, since Thompson is expiring. They get to kick the tires on Drummond, see if he fits, and then have the possibility to re-sign.

At the very least, he's a lot more exciting than what they gave up!

Interesting they now have an open roster spot and theoretically could absorb a contract with
their armload of trade exceptions. Let's see if anything emerges in the remaining time.....
