Re: Roy Hibbert
I would think Indy would let West walk after his contract is up.

Re: Roy Hibbert
I agree but if they give Roy a MAx deal that might hamper future deals that is my point. I am not debating IF Roy is a key piece to the Pacers cause he is. It's the same reason why Batum might be allowed to walk maybe a little different in terms of importence to team but still similar. Also Pacers had "dreams" like the Blazers to add another Starter type player to there Roster and giving Roy that deal plus with Hill might not allow that to happen.
I still think in the End Pacers will match but i think between Gordon and Roy the Pacers might be alittle more willing to let Roy walk then the Hornets lets Gordon walk.

I like that Olshey is being aggressive but I think Indiana just waits until the last minute and matches (why wouldn't they tie up Portlands money for as long as possible").. That's not really that much for a center of his caliber..

I like that Olshey is at least willing to take the shot. Better have a 10% chance of getting someone worthwhile than not taking the chance and getting the 'ability' to overpay a hawes/asik type guy.

If Indiana doesn't end up matching, expect them to make a push for Greg Oden.

Re: Roy Hibbert
What are the consequences of matching Baum and signing hibbert? Are we talking impossible, Paul Allen paying a lot of taxes, or just a small tax consequence? Does it make Freeland /Claver prohibitive? I have no idea, but it looks like a few people on the board have this stuff down.

You don't let your centerpiece walk away for nothing. Sure there are times where releasing salary is the better option but not when that salary is going to a franchise cornerstone.

We'd still be under the lux tax but we'd be dangerously close to it. I think it helps that Shawne's contract expires after this next season. Also I'd take it very lightly that Paul Allen wants to stay under the lux tax. He's proven that he's willing to spend money when the opportunity to build a contender arises and I don't think he's about to change his m.o. A frontcourt of Batum/LA/Hibbert would be freakishly good on defense.

I don't think being about 12 million under the tax is dangerously close to it

Re: Roy Hibbert
It sounds like Hibbert has verbally agreed to terms with Portland today. Which means he wont be talking to anyone but Portland and Indiana from here on out...

Re: Roy Hibbert
I think Bird would have let Hibbert go at that price but with Pritchard it is a mystery. It would be nice to get some exact numbers on where the Pacers would be sitting cap wise if they match.

I think Pritchard will act swiftly. He has no animosity for the Blazer fans - as he has tweeted time and time again - and, he's good friends with Chad Buchanan and Mike Born. I bet he either signs the offer sheet or defers it immediately...

they only have 36 million in committed salaries. Matching the offer would leave them at about 49 million which is still 9-11 million below the cap
They extended the QO to Hill, but you'd have to think he won't be getting giant offers. Generically, the Pacers would be fine after matching
the hitch is that, reportedly, the Pacers are not in great financial shape. Still, the mandated minimum team salary doesn't offer Indiana much chance to save money by slashing payroll

Apparently they're making a push for Eric Gordon, so I could see them using that space on him and taking a cheaper route to fill the center position (Asik, Oden, Haywood etc.).

Taking one's time with a RFA is a tactical move that could keep Portland from pursuing other options in free agency. Considering that Indy has some cap space it could be a smart move to wait it out.

By the time we use the MLE and LLE we will be pretty darn close.

Re: Roy Hibbert
I might be wrong but I don't think you get an MLE if you're under the cap.
