Why am I ranting? ONe because the board is dead, Two I've had a couple beers, but three the NBA has turned into a game where you let your best person create and play off him. Kobe, LeBron, D-Wade...All Creators. Nash, DWill, Cp3...Creators. Paul Pierce, Rondo...creators. Westbrook, Durant...creators.

I hear now declare Tyreke Evans a C, which stands for creator! We need minions that can deliver. If we get that and a co C we're in business for a long time.

That's brilliant!

This gets me thinking. With all the knocks on Nocioni, I have yet to see him compared to Larry Bird. Nevertheless, if you think about it, you may arrive at a surprising realization: What did Larry Bird do? He shot. Hornacek? Shot. Reggie Miller? Shot. By floppy crickets, they were all...shooters.

I hereby declare Nocioni an S, which stands for shooter! This puts him in rarefied company. We need peons who can serve our S. If we get those and a co-S...wait, scratch that...if we find a GM who will trade somebody commensurate in value for our rarefied S, then we will really be in business!

All kidding aside, the knock on Evans is that, at this stage of his development, he lacks many important creator skills to be an efficient creator. He doesn't shoot at a high percentage and he doesn't create high-percentage shots for his teammates very well.

I mean, players want to play with LeBron, Wade, Deron, Nash, Kidd, and CP3, but I just don't see FAs lining up to sign with the Kings going "I want to go to Sacramento so I'll have Tyreke friggin' Evans to create 20-foot kickout jumpers for me all night, yeah!"

Currently, drawing parallel between Tyreke and LeBron is like saying Bosh is like a young Garnett without the court vision, the passing ability, the range, the big hands, the craftiness off the ball, the help defense, the strenght to guard 5, and the quickness to guard 1-3.

One day in the future? Maybe, but 'Reke has a long way to go if he ever gets there...

So the problem is that Tyreke's teammates are jump shooters, and therefore Tyreke isn't creating shots for them? What the hell?

Tyreke is very good at creating shots for teammates--particularly for a player at his age. And that's what part of this thread is about, is his potential. Clearly, this is what he'll be able to do in the future. Tyreke is really excellent right now at knowing where everyone is on the floor, reading the defense in a given moment and finding the open man. He's also capable of getting higher percentage shots for his teammates. It's just a matter of his teammates being in a position to get those open shots, and being able to make them. It's no coincidence that his assists shot up when the Kings got Landry--a big that can actually finish around the basket. Before that, Tyreke had made several passes to Jason and Spencer for what should be easy shots that they couldn't finish.

Maybe Tyrekes creator problems are because he plays on the 3rd worst team in the NBA and he is 20 years old.

Give him a break. Steve fricken Nash couldn't even produce more assists per game then Tyreke until his 5th year in the NBA.

You read something I didn't say. I didn't say Reke was in the same company (make no mistake though in four, 5 years he will be) as the above mentioned.

YES Nocioni is a shooter. The only distinction you failed to make was that he's not a good shooter. You can label him an S.

Garnett and Bosh never have been anywhere near the same player nor did they play a similar role to their teams. Reke and LBJ do have a similar game. You're looking at the result and not the process.

That was part of my inspiration for my post.
This space needs to be filled with a new sig...but I'm too lazy to make one.

The funny thing is that after nearly 40 years of being a fan of and around basketball I have heard the same complaints generation after generation. People bitched about Magic, Bird, Jordan, Shaq and now Kobe and LeBron. Tyreke has JUST STARTED HIS CAREER and already people are finding fault with the fact that he either 1) doesn't take enough shots (when they think that we would have won if he had), or 2) hasn't gotten enough shots created for his teammates. Every great player faces this type of fan criticism and after a while it gets pretty old. Guys like this only come along once in a rare while and we have been lucky enough to land one. Everything fom this point becomes building around him to get him the right complimentary pieces to win a championship. It does not matter what you call his position at this point, it is basketball player - and the best one on the court. Players like this just do whatever is needed to will their team to winning.
