I feel like I'm watching someone actually lose their mind. Do you need physical help currently? Are you a danger to yourself or others?

Was about to quote these and say, this is what undiagnosed schizophrenia looks like.

I just notice in general, the online scouts & draft geeks are lost in this archtype universe where nearly every high usage guard gets pigeon-holed as a selfish shot creator who freezes out teammates, is inefficient & doesn't play any defense.

Then I look at alot of these plus/minus advanced stats such as EPM and I see the top of the list dominated by high usage shot creators.

Do we think he loses it at the hair thing as often as he loses it when we remind him that last year’s draft sucked? Will this go on in perpetuity?

Harper has a standing reach of 8'6 and a wingspan of 6'10.5. Is that because of his hair too?

Thats already comparable to Dwyane Wade.

Edgecombe has a wingspan of 6’8” but have a standing reach of 8’5.5”

Both Wade and Harper have broad shoulders.

There is zero doubt Harper’s shot selection when he couldn’t drive absolutely sucked.

If you’re pro-Harper, you note that he played on a bad team, against a packed paint, and was basically just trying out for the pros all year.

If you’re anti-Harper, you wonder if you can correct his shot selection, if he’s selfish, and if his slightly goofy flat shot is the real problem.

I don’t know. I still don’t love him the way most people seem to, but I acknowledge that his weaknesses could be baked into his situation at Rutgers and he may indeed be a star in the making. It looks like San Antonio intends to find out, so we’ll all get to see soon enough.

I think we should have learned that supremely talented players with questionable shot selection on bad teams shouldn't matter.

I’m not gonna deep dive on this, but we both know there have been plenty of very talented guys with ishtty habits that wouldn’t break them and turned into mediocre pros. Picking a guy that’s clearly a better athlete than Harper — a TON better — that it worked out for isn’t compelling evidence.

Harper’s handle is sick in a way that Ant’s never will be, I’ll give him that. But that’s no guarantee.

The bad % isn’t mainly because of shot selection though. He’s just got a mid at best perimeter shooting skill for now.

I mean he probably shoots a significantly higher percentage if he played on one of the top 15 college teams this year where he had better spacing and more advantage creators around him to open up the game. He was actually a pretty good catch and shoot guy but for anyone who watched Rutgers...

The paint was packed, not many guys making stuff happen on offense outside of Harper and Bailey so the defense was able to load up on them constantly. The fact Harper still shot such a high percentage at the rim despite all that is what makes him a no brainer selection, he is going to be a problem in the NBA for teams to prevent getting to the rim.

I’m not disagreeing, but as unfair as it sounds, his career still largely depends on his shooting. Right now, it’s not at the level needed to be a lead guard in the NBA. There’s definitely room for improvement, but it’s something to seriously consider if you’re drafting him. And thats probably why Spurs isn’t 100% sure in drafting him.
