Even as a diehard Duke fan that game was brutal to watch. And to put things into perspective, NY Giants QB Daniel Jones brother Bates Jones got 15 minutes for Duke and looked productive in the game. Jaylen Blakes who I almost forgot was on the team got 18 minutes.
We've seen this from Griffin before.
21 minutes, 18 points on 7-10 shooting and 2 steals against Lafayette. Then followed up with
11 minutes against The Citadel
6 minutes against Gonzaga
2 minutes against Ohio State
(to be clear, this isnt me saying you TraBuch is getting overly excited from this game. Just putting the context out there for anyone who didnt watch the game and just watch these highlights and might start getting pumped to see AJ turning it around.)
We have some posters on the Raps board that are already sold on his potential. Not me though, I'm like.. Uhh.. he's had two good games so far this season.
Every time I watch AJ I find he's mostly invisible out there. His handle isn't where it needs to be and he's not as athletic as he should/looks. I'd rather look or take a chance on Kendall/Benedict personally, unless AJ picks it up.
Ya and to be clear, I am a big AJ fan so I would love to see him get going. It would be great as a Duke fan to see and so I can say how right I was the previous 2 years about him haha.
I will say this as a follow up to my previous post. Both games Griffin did well in, yes they were against horrible competition but those were the only games he was allowed to get into a rhythm. The Lafayette game, Griffin didnt score until about 6 minutes of game time. Same thing from the previous game. Both times he comes in very tentative, but once he gets going, he starts putting the ball the ball down and attacking.
Ive been pretty positive with my views on K so far this year, but this is my biggest negative with him. I think the very short leash has killed AJ's confidence. If its against a legit opponent, all AJ has to do is miss a shot and he is pulled for the rest of the game. You can see that tentative play style in these games against these horrible opponents. The first few minutes in he seems very hesitant to do anything. But once it becomes obvious he's going to be out there for awhile, you see his game open up. What has Keels done to give him an unlimited leash, while AJ is still on the shortest leash possible (talking going against legit competition).
Again not getting too hyped about this game because of how bad the opposition is and we've seen this before and once a real game comes along, AJ goes back to being the last man in the rotation. Just saying I still think AJ is a talented kid and when he gets to play relaxed I think he can be a good player. Just doubt we will see that against legit competition this year.
