I’ve only liked HS as a giant bully ball 4 owning the glass. But SV got me thinking… so I looked up their combine measurements and they are nearly identical in everything. It’s crazy.

What do you think of HS next to Caleb Wilson at the 4 for my Bulls?

Anyone else see a poor man’s KAT?

I dont see KAT. Towns is a insane shooter with one of the softest touches ever for a big man.

Hannes is more mobile and will do some work in the open floor. I think he builds out a 3 but wont be near the volume of KAT.

I actually see more Hartenstein in him than anyone albeit that still isnt a perfect comparison. Think iHart w/ a coin flip chance of developing a 3 ball - which is a Top-10 guy to me. About 75% of the block rate as iHart though. Think Hannes does have the feel to become a similar level passer FWIW.

HS has an elite feathery touch in the paint. It’s ridiculous. KAT is much better off the dribble though. KAT only averages 10 and 6 his freshman year. HS was 18 and 12 with the worst guards in the country.

If HS gets to league average from 3 on 3-4 attempts it will be plenty to spread the floor and then attack off the bounce. KAT was 2-8 from 3 and HS was 18-53. KAT is only shooting 4 3s per game. The most he’s shot in a season is 6. HS was 75FT and KAT was 80FT %.

I’m telling you their game is crazy similar and HS showed way more in his freshman season with much worse talent around him.

Call me crazy but I really think HS will be picked top-12 at worst. Could see Mavs or Bucks pick him

He is able to make threes that are contested, teams weren't standing in the paint daring him to shoot it.

This is very high praise since Towns is one of the best rebounders in the league. What does what you expect Steinbach's rebounding to look like (by the numbers)?

I just want to add that this is a big difference if it holds, and is the most important indicator.

What did he show way more of? As a reminder, Towns was selected as the #1 pick in his draft (although it may have been relatively a weaker class).

I'm being critical of Steinbach, I just want to read more of what you have to say about him since I enjoy reading it.

KAT wasn’t that rebounder at Kentucky. HS was a much better rebounder as a freshman. I think HS will be a top 10 rebounder in the league early and eventually top 5. Could def see him becoming the best.

HS produced way more. He had awful guards that rarely hit him in his spots. He flashed a 3 ball, post moves, face up on ball creation and physicality.

Think he has a strong motor and will outrun lots of Cs in a pace offense.

Hannes is much less skilled than people think he is. He hardly takes anyone off the bounce, his passing is rudimentary and basic, he self-creates nothing.

The Sengun/Sabonis comps are nonsensical and in my view actually somewhat racist because of the Euro connection. He also is not anything better than an average shooter, sure he can shoot them but it’s not a large part of his game as it is KAT or someone.

He is far closer to Wendell Carter Jr. than them. In fact that’s my comp for him, worse defending Wendell Carter Jr.

Hannes is, to my eyes, more fluid a mover than WCJ - and a better rebounder. But thats not a bad comparison - and a better rebounding WCJ with more mobility is a top-15 pick in just about any draft. I see this comp as the middle outcome for Hannes - but I continue to think he has some legit upside given his mobility and motor at his size + if he scales up / develops his 3 alot unlocks IMO.

As a Duke and Magic fan, let me just say that WCJ doesn't even have half the offensive bag that HS has.

Also, WCJ is bulky and strong. He can bang with the Jokics, Adams, Zubacs of the league. I can't see HS do that as of now.

I really buy into Hannes being a PF at the next level. I think he moves at a similar level as Lauri - who is a guy that similarly doesnt put up big BPG stats but has played PF, even SF, despite being 7'0 and well built. Now, I get the shooting Lauri brings is going to be a fallback on why the comp isnt apt but removing that, Lauri is a elite mover for his size. He gets up and down the floor with ease and is very agile for his size. I see Hannes as that type.

I think outside the Top-4 the guys with elite potential are Ament, Hannes and Wagler.

Nothing, I was just extrapolating on your comment that WCJ is a bulky, banging guy that is a bit clunky. Was agreeing on the comparison being bad.

Compared to wcj? Aside from the common 3pter... give HS the ball face up or back to the basket and he can make it work. You do that with wcj and 80% of the time it leads to a TO.

Agreed. HS has some spins, fadeaways, up and under and step throughs. He can also face up and penetrate off the bounce.

As a Bulls fan I know Lauri well and HS does remind me of Lauri’s movement and athleticism. He won’t ever shoot like Lauri but I think in the half court he moved very similar with agility and strength. He also runs the floor very well for a big. HS is way more active on the glass.

I initially wanted HS pre lottery at 9 as a jumbo PF that would bully PFs and small ball 5 that could fly up and down the court… until the combine where he measured really well and tested agility and jumping really well.

I see him now as a starting 5 that can play PF. Us drafting a strong defensive athletic 4 in Wilson and HS as the 5 is a strong combo with lots of versatility and offense and defense. Ideally backup C to HS would be a giant 7 footer so he does still get mins at the 4 too.

My best case draft is Wilson Morez followed by Wilson HS. But think they will both be gone by 15.

From the sounds of it, I think NBA teams are far higher on Steinbach than the twitter heads. NBA teams value shooting, rebounding and skill a lot more than run and jump bigs that can be found in the late first/2nd round of drafts.

People might hate it and also say its lazy.. BUTTTTT... Prime Moe Wagner is my comparison.

Bear in mind before that ACL injury last season Moe was neck-in-neck with Portis as the 6MOY contender that time.

Steinbach to me needs to improve his defense but he had little to no help on his team. I think he has all-star potential.

I think he sorta projects to score in similar ways to Mo but his passing and especially rebounding is night and day.

Wagner but with 22-25% reb% w/ 2+ apg
