Shannon doesn't have that potential
DeAndre Hunter, smaller Gerald Wallace
Well people didn't think Jalen Williams had this kind of upside either, yet here we are....
Sure, but each year of age they are, the less likely it is. Jalen Williams was 21.5 Years of age his rookie season. Shannon will be 24.0 years of age.
Upperclassmen automatically get downgraded in "potential" because of this believe that anyone good goes one and done. Well a lot of one and dones aren't ready for NBA minutes right away, and upperclassmen can often come in and be high level contributors.
You can say this but keep in mind I never said this. So bringing up what some people do, who aren't me, really has no bearing on me or the point I am making.
The fact is Shannon never showed the on-ball creation which Jalen Williams flashed in college. Shannon would need to make a major leap at 24 years of age which he never showed in college. Meanwhile, Jalen Williams showed a massive jump as a playmaking during his Age 20 season.
I think another interesting case study was Desmond Bane. Had a very solid college career, but drafted at the end of the round because he was an older draftee and he couldn't possibly be that good because he was older than most of the kids he was facing.....
Desmond Bane, the guy who shot 46, 42 and 44 percent from 3 in his final 3 years in College? Yeah, I do like him as an analogy for Terrence Shannon Jr more-so than the younger guys, but for every Bane their are 10 other players who don't pan out.
This is why I said Crash Jr. That's just a perfect encapsulation of Terrence Shannon Jr as a prospect. Hard-nosed wing who relentlessly attacks the rim. Crash was a very good player at his pinnacle as well and for a skill-set matches much better than Bane [A lights out shooter] or JB/JDub who have much more complete offensive games than TSJ.
