we could have gotten more last season
From who and what was the return exactly?
Outside of the Durant and Irving deals there was a lot of crap being dealt for multiple 2nd rounders.
Lot's of fans are talking as if there were a mountain of assets available for Bobby and Masai to choose from. Masai has never been gun shy about making tough choices and deals, but he doesn't make deals if the value isn't equitable.
That’s not really saying much because no GM in their right mind would make deal if the value to them isn’t at least equitable. It’s not just Masai.
We don’t have complete information on all the trade negotiations so we are all just guessing, but the general point is valid that the shorter the duration till a contract expires means the (trade) value becomes less (i.e., as XTC said, we could have gotten more last season). This is akin to time value decay principle of an option financial derivative declining in value the closer it gets to its expiration date.
