If you’re talking about Kasp, he went from knocking down step backs to shooting 14%. So either his first 70% of games were flukes, he’s in a slump, his injury somehow affected his shooting, or a fourth reason.
Speculating on the reasoning behind his shooting woes isn’t the same as “using excuses”.
Oh no Kasparas just sucks, doesn't have the handle, shot creation or athleticism to be anything of substance in the NBA. I was very hopeful for him earlier in the year and the film and production has been incredibly underwhelming. Not only is his handle sloppy and he's prone to lost ball turnovers but he carries little driving gravity, most of his passing is overhead swing passes along the perimeter. Really overhyped player. Topic last year clears him easily.
Seems like you’re talking about passing out of the P/R, which is the most common play in basketball. I just did a tally on one of his poorer games:
Out of 15 passes, 3 were perimeter swing passes, about 10 were passes out of the pick and roll. The reason he had to keep passing out of the P/R is cause of the gravity he kept drawing after coming off the screen. Opposing big would also go under the screen on all these passes.
Five TO’s, none were really ball-handling related. Three were from bad passes, one was from dragging his pivot foot while turning in the paint, one was off of a handoff where the ball bounced off his foot on the first dribble.
Just did a tally for Demin for one of his higher assist games:
3 perimeter swing passes, 6 P/R, one drive and kick, two high low passes, 5 passes in transition (one being a drive and kick)
In all of Kasp’s passes out of the P/R, he’s driving 1-2+ steps into the arc because the opposing big is going under the screen. It’s usually too crowded to drive any further.
In the game with Demin, he almost never steps foot within the 3 point arc for his passes in a half court setting, defenders and hedging and doubling at the 3 point line leaving the roll man open. In his other passes, the team is usually just running a set play and Demin passes from a stand still position.
