That's incorrect. You add a player like Rasho or Joey or Dixon to the deal to make salaries match. However, under current circumstances, with Ford possibly contemplating retirement or not returning to action this season, it would be insanity to trade Jose.
I should have been clearer, given Jose's Rookie contract, even adding Rasho is not going to get you an impact player of Jose's level at another position. People need to be realistic here. Regardless of perceived worth, smart GM's only pay what the market will bear (and if that's more than they're willing to pay, then so be it). This works out great if you're a big or in a year where many people have cap space. All the scenarios presented thus far don't make much sense to me. Where you're drafted has a huge bearing on the size of your after rookie contract.
It's only my opinion, but I really don't think Jose is going to get 8+ million. He'll get close though. After that trade scenarios get much more interesting a year or 2 from now. Also, the team will have a much clearer indication of where TJ's at.
