Realistically, who could we trade Calderon for?

That's incorrect. You add a player like Rasho or Joey or Dixon to the deal to make salaries match. However, under current circumstances, with Ford possibly contemplating retirement or not returning to action this season, it would be insanity to trade Jose.

I should have been clearer, given Jose's Rookie contract, even adding Rasho is not going to get you an impact player of Jose's level at another position. People need to be realistic here. Regardless of perceived worth, smart GM's only pay what the market will bear (and if that's more than they're willing to pay, then so be it). This works out great if you're a big or in a year where many people have cap space. All the scenarios presented thus far don't make much sense to me. Where you're drafted has a huge bearing on the size of your after rookie contract.

It's only my opinion, but I really don't think Jose is going to get 8+ million. He'll get close though. After that trade scenarios get much more interesting a year or 2 from now. Also, the team will have a much clearer indication of where TJ's at.

I agree. I can't see him tying up so much in the PG position knowing that there are other holes. He may be forced to match an offer in excess of that but to offer him upwards of 8 before determining what his market value is would be a bonehead move.

I am not too sure how incentive latent contracts work with respects to the cap but I would like to see him make around 7 and give him incentives should he start more than 20 games. Jose's true worth to the team must be weighed against TJ's health.

I do thin he is more valuable on the open market though.

Lebron James and an unprotected draft pick in the 2008 NBA entry draft.

That would be the starting point for Jose. Cleveland might have to add Varejao and a couple million on top to get Colangelo to consider.
