durant trade makes no sense whatsoever. bi plus durant is too much risk for this team.
we should be the third team in the trade trying to get cheap vets to help stabilize our young bench. delladova for example

PW and Jevon Carter are crap, though. So "salary flexibility and the 12th pick for RJ despite us almost 100% not getting Giannis" becomes that trade.
Ouf....1yr 6mill for Carter but 4 x 18mill for PW. Both, I would say, fringe rotation players at this point.
I would do this if someone is willing to take 9th/12th pick for a trade up and you're in love with the guy.
As you've said, it's not like the 12th pick is going to be the asset that secures a Giannis deal.

I am curious as to what a little Darko magic could do for Patrick Williams.
I would also ask about Lonzo Ball instead of Jevon Carter. He's got about $4M extra.

Won't solve him being a small big with health issues, who blows at rebounding and is a waste of skin in close.

I get it but I disagree. They have a contract to play, not play where they prefer. If they want a say in where they play, negotiate a no trade clause like Beal did.
He’s not refusing to report. He’s refusing to extend. That’s 100% within his right. This isn’t what Mourning did.

Its already reported that Houston wont give up that much. They haven Jalen green + #10 pick, thats the offer.
In that case, KD is a Raptor.

Its ok to make a move as long as it makes you better overall. Gradual improvement how majority of teams win championships. The ones who bank on shortcuts typically fall flat on their face.
I agree and it's almost uncommon, however that's not to say that it's never been done before. It's basically never been done where a team with a bottom-8 record became championship contenders through trade except with the 2007-2008 Boston Celtics. They were 24-58 with the 2nd worst record and then won a chip through two huge trades to get KG and Allen. The only other notable examples of deep lotto teams to championship contenders were done organically through draft picks like Spurs getting Duncan and Celtics getting Bird.

Well, we don't know that they were going to do anything dumb, but at least this suggests that now it's no longer even an option, which is good.

Bringing in KD was always dumb. The team isn’t at the point where they’re a KD away from contention, much less a 37 year old KD. The rumours of the 9th pick going in the trade is the cherry on top of the turd sundae of a deal.

...Yeah I can get behind this.

Mostly for that 12th overall pick but also because Williams is a guy we allegedly had on our radar last offseason and the Bulls are notoriously terrible at developing their young guys.
Could be a perfect fleece opportunity.

PWill should be on a minimum contract but instead he's making above MLE for the next four years. I wouldn't want him, even with the #12.

Kids value doesn’t go to zero after one year. The teams that he may want to go to won’t have the cap space to pay him 65 million. So unless KD is looking to take a massive discount it will be a sign and trade. No way if KD says he is walking that the Raltos would take crap contracts back, so you will still get decent value.

Definitely within his right. I just don’t like the “I don’t want to go there” reports. Reality is whoever trades for him will have his Bird Rights and are likely to be the only ones who will give him the contract he will seek. He wants the contract and location, which I can’t fault him for, but it’s coming at the expense of his current team.

plus his contract becomes easier on the cap due to the cap increases year over year since I believe PW's salary is flat?

Why would they give us that, I don't think his contract is so bad as to require a lotto pick, 18mil flat is pretty low cost, PO at the end might be a pain though. TBF I haven't watched much Bulls lately, is he that bad?

Props TZ!
