Jalen was mocked at 6 for like 90 percent of the year until like combine workouts started. He was closer to that top tier of players than his actual pick represents.
Still needs development but you can't help but be impressed with his size and skill combination.
Skill wise, Jalen Johnson was the real #5 pick and was ranked ahead of both Barnes and Kuminga throughout most of the year but unfortunately his "character" plummeted his stock. I've mentioned it before but Atlanta got the biggest steals of the draft with him and Cooper as they raise Atlanta's playoff ceiling significantly. For a team that went to the ECF, they managed to get a lottery pick @ 20 and a mid teen FRP @ 49 which is incredible value.
We say this every year about teams that draft players that "slipped" in the draft and it always turns out that the other teams were correct in not drafting them.
I said this in another thread, how many 6ft point guards who can't shoot, can't defend and who turn the ball over at a high rate are there in the NBA? FVV is also 6ft and coming out of college he could defend at a high level, knock down 3's and not turn the ball over and he went undrafted.
And Jalen Johnson has an intriguing skillset but some very concerning character issues. 20 teams were obviously concerned with these issues and felt that his skillset wasn't good enough to warrant a lottery selection.
