Vecenie speaks to current nba playoffs and weak link theory of players who can't defend getting exploited moreso this year than previous years ie. isaiah joe getting attacked right now
also has fears 18 which I dont agree with but says he really needs to hit a high level to be a starter

Draft is less than 2 weeks away so this should be the last Aggregate Mock they publish for this year's draft cycle. Should also be the last time I update my tier list too (link to previous list: https://forums.realgm.com/boards/viewtopic.php?p=118738490#p118738490).

To get a more clear picture of where things stand right now, HoopsHype has once again updated the list of the top prospects for the 2025 NBA Draft by compiling 10 mock drafts from ESPN, CBS Sports, The Athletic, Bleacher Report, Babcock Hoops, USA Today, NBAdraft.net, SB Nation and FTW.

Tier 1) Will not be available at Pick #9 (Worst rank no lower than 8):
Cooper Flagg
Dylan Harper
VJ Edgecombe

Tre Johnson

Tier 2) Could be available at Pick #9 but not guaranteed (Best rank no lower than 9 and Worst rank is lower than 9):
Jeremiah Fears
Ace Bailey
Kon Knueppel
Khaman Maluach
Derik Queen
Collin Murray-Boyles
Kasparas Jakucionis

Egor Demin
Nolan Traore
Noa Essengue
Carter Bryant

Tier 3) Other Masai-type FRPs that are probably mocked too low to be realistic options at Pick #9 (Best rank is lower than 9):
Asa Newell (Best rank is 11)
Jase Richardson (Best rank is 11)
Adou Thiero (Best rank is 20)

I highlighted names in green if they produced like Masai-type FRPs, and red if they did not produce like Masai-type FRPs. The non-highlighted names I'm unsure about. For any non-NCAA prospect, I can't evaluate with any degree of confidence because these Masai-type FRP queries only work with NCAA prospects.
My Masai/Bobby-type FRP Barttorvik queries: 4/4, zero misses

- What is the data filter again for Masai type?
- Did OG produce like one?

It's not a set data filter, it's class dependent. So it's different if you are a Fr/Soph/Jr/Sr.

Every FRP Masai has made post-Bruno mistake (including both Koloko pick 33 and Mogbo pick 31 which I considered pseudo-FRPs as top 5 SRPs, so very early 2nds) is on the list retroactively, including OG.

This is because the creation of these queries in 2023 was aided by the pre-existing dataset of all 7 FRP selections Masai has made since the Bruno mistake in 2014, up until 2022 (Delon/Poeltl/Siakam/OG/Malachi/Scottie/Koloko).

^ had the same thought. “Produced like Masai-type FRPs” feels awfully subjective given we’ve guys like Siakam, OG, and Bruno in the first round.

You can’t solely evaluate using class data though - it’s not fair to compare Demar or Scottie as a freshman to Maluach, for example, because they played different positions and roles. The best comparison to Maluach would be freshman year Poeltl, who he outproduces.

And you can’t just exclude the Bruno mistake either. That speaks to draft strategy.

I won’t critique too much because I can’t see the data but saying they’re “Masai like” based on criteria that no one can see just feels like you’re trying to prop guys you like. Which is totally fine! It’s a message board.

Good short interview with Asa Newell and college ball analyst Andy Katz.

I am a fan of Newell but mocks have him much lower but I think it might be incorrect.

-He was 11 ranked in RSCI in 2024.
-played on Team USA and Monteverde.
-4x SEC freshman of the week
-All SEC freshman team
-Green room invite

I get that most project him as a role player, but he is not a player that will be picked on by defenses. He knows his role and has workman-like approach.

I do think the Raptors will look hard at drafting him if he kills in the workout. He is the theoretical stretch big but I like his shooting form and he certainly got shots up last season. If he expands his game and adds some smart passing, he could be the next Jalen Johnson.

Jalen Johnson - Duke / one and done who played only 13 games.

Not draft news but this asking price is a little steep for us it would be like Yak, Walter or Dick, And 2 future firsts.

He’s a good player but the asking price is way too high.

That's also a common comp for Asa. I do think of Jalen Johnson because he has a compact-ness to his game that Asa has as well, just quick gathers and elite dunks and leaping skills. Rewatching JJ's film he was a monster at Duke:

Ya, Clowney shot 65% FT in college, but shot 83% this past season and 33% from 3.

I think that Carter Bryant is more like Jalen Johnson that shoots the 3 better. He's 1 inch shorter but has more hops. I guess Bryant is a SF that can guard 1-4, while Jalen Johnson is a SF/PF that can guard 2-4.
