His on-ball D is absolutely incredible, better than OG at POA.
His whole career will be based on can he hit a 3 consistently. If he can, he’s going to make a lot of money.
let's not get carried away now. OG's been consistently matched up against the NBA's elite offensive players. Ochai does have potential to be a great POA defender but he lacks OG's size. I see him more as a Norman Powell/Danny Green type if we're comparing him to former
Raptors.
Norman Powell / Danny Green really could not be any different.
One is a all-defense level player who did nothing offensively on offense but hit threes.
The other was a bad defender (which is why he is never a starter despite crazy efficiency) who is a more well rounded offensive player in terms of shooting + slashing.
Neither are great comps for him. Ochai is a great defender with no offensive game. A smaller OG is a better comp as they have the same strengths / weaknesses.
Ochai is shooting 43% from the corners, 24% from above the break
OG this year is shooting 44% from the corners, 31% from above the break
As a rook, OG shot 44$ and 28% respectively
So really I think if we can get Ochai to pretty much only take corner 3's and work in the gym to increase his range, we could have a steal here.
