A few things I noticed:
- Ty Corbin's adjustment to go small late in the game to help get CJ some zone-busting open shots paid off. Knowing CJ, such a move may never pay off again, but it did tonight.
- Al Jefferson was of course superb, but I still can't figure out why the other guys don't move an inch when he has the ball. Is it by design? Are they calling clear outs for him? Or have guys forgotten how to cut? I seem to recall guys cutting down the lane and across the baseline in the Jazz's offense, but this doesn't appear to happen much any more.
- I'm concerned that Jefferson didn't take a single free throw tonight. He's not always going to shoot 17-24. He's a good free throw shooter and needs to make an effort to get to the line.
- Hayward needs to drive to the basket more. He appears to have the handles and the athleticism to do so but lacks the confidence. I also thought we'd see him taking and making the "Harpring curl" shot with regularity by this time in the season.
I agree with a lot of your assesment. Some notes to add to what you have said.
- I think the small line up was a great counter to the problems the zone was having. I think it was a little late and us going to zone took way too long. But I do think you will see it happen more often when people try to pop a zone on us.
- The players are standing still, it's a sign that they don't understand the full function of the offense yet. You do see AK and Sap cut more then the others as they have played within the offense more and know where the cutting lanes are. You will see more players cut once they understand where they can and cannot. I remember seeing a couple games earlier this year where Hayward cut into someone elses cut lane. This caused a stall on offense and usually results in a turnover or a bad shot. You also saw him not cut and DWill get mad at him. The cutting will come
-Ever since DWill's trade we have no star power to get the calls from the refs. It is frustrating to watch as a fan as I feel a foul is a foul. But they seem to make the players create a name for themselves first before they get too many of the calls. Big Al should be looked at by now as someone who should be given some respect but they still treat him like a rookie most games.
-Ever since DWills blow up with Hayward he seems tentative to shoot the ball. The last couple games he has shot more but he needs to get the cutting down as previously discussed to open himself up for more open looks.
