Of the mock drafts that I looked at for 2024, the top pg prospect is Procter, who decided to forego the draft this year and return to Duke. Major red flag to me. The only other pg prospect in the top 14 is Collier who will be a freshman from USC and is ranked below Proctor (yikes!).
However, if the Jazz aren't in the top 10, they lose their pick and don't get a chance at either of these players (who might not be as good as several of the pgs in this draft).
The 2024 free agent pgs? Dejounte Murray. After that, it drops off a cliff.
The Jazz have Dunn next year on a very team favorable deal, but after that he is an UFA. He is also older. It is questionable whether THT comes back, and even if he does, it is questionable whether he is the PGOTF. (Edit: Is anyone comfortable right now with Sexton as the PGOTF?)
This draft is loaded with pg prospects mocked in the top 16. I think the Jazz have to draft a pg with either #9 or #16.
Building a good roster is a process that takes time over several seasons. I don't expect the Jazz to have all their pieces within a span of 12 months or so from the time the blew up the previous roster.
The answer to the PG position may come in several ways, such as placeholder players through free agency or trades, signing a guy from Europe, draft. Or if they're lucky, they manage to trade for a PG of stature who can really be a part of the core going forward. Sure, this draft is loaded with PG prospects but none of them are all that impressive other than Scoot to the point where I'm thinking that if we draft PG prospect X then we found our PGOTF.
As for Sexton, I'm on record saying that I'd like to see what he can do as a starter. Due to his injury, we couldn't really see that after the trade deadline but I have no problem with him being the starter next season, and expect that to be the case. After the season, we'll see where we stand.
