Marc Gasol was just complaining about how the Lakers are using him. There may be some small chance that Gasol gets bought out.

The Lakers brought in Drummond and immediately handed Drummond the starting job, though Drummond only lasted 14 mins before he hurt his toe. The Lakers have five guys that play Center: AD, Gasol, Harrell, Drummond and Damian Jones. Gasol is probably rightly sensing that Drummond, AD and Harrell will get the Center minutes when everyone is healthy.

Considering our rotation is pretty much set, I am not sure how the Jazz could guarantee Gasol any more minutes than the Lakers, but I think Conley would get more out of him on offense than the Lakers have. Gasol's defense in the paint is still pretty good. He might be able to play alongside Favors with Gasol playing paint protector on defense and Gasol playing stretch four on offense, but I don't know whose minutes you would cut. Niang maybe?

Even if Gasol doesn't get bought out now, I could see see him asking for a buyout in the offseason if he ends up being odd man out in the playoffs --- considering sitting on the bench isn't what he signed up for. Not sure the Jazz or any team would guarantee 36 year old Gasol a regular rotation role for the 21/22 season, but he might be interested in reuniting with Conley for one last run.

We've still got young Azubuike that might develop in to a good third option big man.

All decent points. My rebuttal would simply be ... why would the Lakers buy him out? They don't need the roster spot and there's no financial reason for them. Buying him out simply allows him to go help another team (like the Jazz) who they are competing with.

With that said, I'd hope the Jazz/Conley would at least reach out if he were bought out. Can't have too much depth, and the team is 1 back tweak or knee twist from being screwed at the center spot (Ily then becomes the #2 center, which would be ugly for defensive reasons).

Justin Jackson bought out. Young, athletic, long forward. I'll be honest, I have no clue how his D is and his outside shot is only mediocre, but anytime I see a rotation player with his measure-ables, my ears perk up.

The thought was that if Gasol was really unhappy about Drummond being brought in and potentially being relegated to the bench, that he might ask to be bought out, and the Lakers might accommodate him for the reason of the recent trend of organizations showing players around the league that they are respectful and mindful of former stars' wishes for ongoing opportunities.

However, Gasol was just asked to clarify the comments where he said he was frustrated about his role, and Gasol answered that he was fully committed to the team regardless of minutes. Maybe that could change in the off season; but I see now that Drummond is only signed for the remainder of this season. Also, the last few games, the Lakers started running more plays through Gasol, and he's responded with assists, points and rebounds.
