An article from the Dallas Morning News suggests the Mavericks let the Hornets know that they would be willing to take back two of their worse contracts in a package for Chris Paul. Tim MacMahon, the reporter who wrote the piece, also suggests the Mavericks will approach the Hornets this summer with a similar offer.
Mark Cuban has repeatedly said the Mavs will be "opportunistic" in the trade market and are willing to take on salary if the right situation presents itself.
"I want to win," Cuban said Wednesday night when asked about his willingness to take on significant salaries under the right circumstances. "If I think it puts us over the top, hell yeah. I'll just go get another job at Dairy Queen."
So if Cuban and the Mavs can offer up a package for Chris Paul and whatever bad contracts the Hornets want to send out why not OKC?
What if the Hornets sent out Paul and Peja? 27.9mil total (I know Peja is way over priced but to land Paul????)
And the Thunder sent out Westbrook, Watson, Wilkins, and Atkins. 17.1mil total
That would mean the Thunder would need to be around 11 mil under the cap to simply absorb the rest.
Would you do it? It's possible a similar package could be used with Jeff Green and not Westbrook. But I'd assume sending out a pg the Hornets would want a pg coming back.
