This reminds me of another center the previous FO regime did when they selected Hasheem Thabeet years prior. He only played bball for a few short years. Playing at UConn masked how raw he truly was. He was exposed once he hit the floor. I wonder how Edey will look in the post playing next to 3J and how his fit will make the Grizzlies either a bigger threat or will he underwhelm before our very eyes.
I think he will have to develop a true 3pt shot to justify this pick. If that happens then I think on offense this will be a great fit and allow JJJ to roam on D again and have a dominate rebounder. We have to change our D back to more of a drop coverage when he is in the game but that is not the end of the world. His combine agility numbers are promising but his in game reaction time seems slow to me. But maybe with more coaching that can be improved upon since he is rather new to the game like you stated.
Edey will need to improve on perimeter shooting as you stated. If he continues to improve on his overall game, Edey will make the Grizzlies a more promising threat than ever before.
