I'd like to start the playoffs tomorrow evening after I get home from work. We have 2 teams so we'll have 2 play-in matchups to widdle the numbers down to 8 before we start round 1.

Please have rosters and rotations finished by 9 pm EST tomorrow so I can post the first two matchups tomorrow night.

No.

I’m very much not a fan of poll voting but the alternative is just too difficult to get votes for.

Wasn't aware of that rule, my bad.

I enjoy these drafts where you select “groups” rather than individual players and assemble teams afterwards. Just a fun change. (I found the categories to be kind of fussy but maybe they are necessary for balance.) We did colleges once, and now this one. At some point I proposed birth cities (which are available on bkref) but I didn’t look too hard into the pool.

Yeah, I like this genre of game where groups are selected rather than individual players or pairs.

I particularly enjoy selecting teams- not sure how else to riff on that concept though.

And yes the categories were for balance- both to help balance the franchises and to keep teams in general from being too stacked.

Bucks would be OP without the limit- open with Dirk and Giannis/Kareem.

Celtics would be OP if you could add another MVP and keep Bird, if even if you could add an All Star Center without sacrificing one of the Celtics drafted stars. Many will say this didn’t do enough to nerf Boston, but it absolutely helped.

Might work with selecting GMs?

We could do state of birth or country of birth for international players. It's a bit research heavy, but B/R has extensive lists for all NBA players by state/country of birth.

https://www.basketball-reference.com/friv/birthplaces.fcgi

140 states/countries have been represented in the NBA/ABA. Obviously, some options aren't realistically viable, whereas big states are OP. If we run an 8-round draft, we select 1 player per state/country. Seems like the obvious way to nerf California and some other big states/countries. The more players we allow per state/country, the less number of rounds.

The Bucks drafted Dr J as well! Doc, Dirk and Kareem would have been an amazing frontcourt.

The state/country thing could work. Teams would be loaded without a time frame restriction though. Which would be okay given that the international pool would be less impacted than the states pool by a time restriction.

And yeah the other reason I had the categories was because it in effect reduced the potency of the player pool. The second and third best MVPs drafted by each franchise were effectively wiped from the pool.
