Anything over 4 years at 8 mill is really overpaying for Haywood. I know centers like Kaman aren't a dime a dozen, but if the Wizards end up with Haywood at 5 for 50 it's roughly equal to what the Clips are paying for Kaman and Haywood literally provides half of what Kaman does. Down the stretch Kaman worked Haywood, BTH simply had no answer defensively and Kaman won the game for the Clips.
This won’t be popular but BTH reminds me of Eric Dampier a lot. I know Damp isn’t the defender Haywood is, but when he was a FA in 2004 I don’t recall people saying he was a bad defender. Haywood and Damp had similar career stats in pre-contract seasons and then in Damps contract season he averaged 12 & 12. BTH is averaging roughly the same in his contract season. Damp got a monster contract which the Mavs have been regretting since he signed. I have a suspicion that Haywood’s intensity will dip after he signs a fat one and his future team will regret the monster contract he gets this off-season.
Wood is a defensive center, that is what he is, he does frustrate on the offensive end. No-matter, Wood is a gonner, I just hope we trade him this season.
