You might or might not be interested to hear that I lived in Oxon Hill
before it was called Fort Washington out past the end of Fort Foote Rd.Our family moved there in 1966 when I was 9, then later moved to
Herndon 2 years later when my father got a job in Reston only to lose
that job less than 2 years later. He ended up with a miserable commute
for many years going from Herndon to Suitland where he worked for NOAA.
I went to Fort Foote ES for 2 years.
jim, it was still called Oxon Hill when my family moved there in 1972. We lived off of Allentown Road. Herndon to Suitland is a pretty good distance, jim. Even back in the day the traffic on I-495 was no joke.
As far as my interest, I sure hope I didn't come off the wrong way with my PG Co remarks. Just this morning I dropped my car off for repairs and the shuttle driver was from NY. We both have been on the island around the same time. Both have the same feelings about our respective hometowns. He commented on how fast people in New York walk and how rude folks were. My impression of the area around Friendly HS is just how much things have changed since the late 70s. Police squad cars patrol the area when school lets out. There are bars on the windows of gas stations. Nobody seems laid back any more. Might be because this is an island, but the pace is slower.
I do care the DMV, but I can't hang any more. If I came back I am sure I would adjust and appreciate all the area has to offer. I probably need to stay flexible, just in case life brings me back.
