Gafford sucks at setting picks. He slips them before he sets them and ends up drawing his defender into the lane to defend both him and the guard easily. If he would set a sticky pick (or screen off ball) then he could create space for both of them. It would spring his shooter loose and force his defender to show outside, which would turn his pick into a footrace against the other Big. He wins that match up. Instead the Big knows not to bother trapping the pick since we don't shoot well from outside anyway and since the little guy won't have to fight through it. No open shot, and a clogged lane.

Just got done watching the game. Lots of positives but the main takeaway for me is that they worked inside out on offense. We could all see that they were taking too many quick 3s in recent.games but not tonight.

60 points in the paint

60 points in the paint against one of the giant front lines that some teams are building now. Beal in particular impressed me as the smallest guy on the floor (when Neto was out) but he was able to split the defense and score inside.

Dallas has one of the weakest defenses I've seen this season. If you want to beat the Wiz, you have to crush their spirit on offense, particularly on the inside. Body them up, force the offense to grind to a stop. Do not let their weak inside presence get easy buckets, which then leads to more confidence for their perimeter shots. Physicality, physicality, physicality. If you are bigger than the wiz then you have to be relentlessly physical.

I don't know if Dallas is always this bad or if it was just having one player playing on one leg defensively, but the Wizards offense is absolutely not this good.
I've been taught all my life to value service to the weak and powerless.

Maybe we should be trying more high PNRs. So many times we set the pick more to the sideline - the defender cheats to the middle - the picker switches to the sideline side - forcing our guard to the sideline and corner. Not very effective.

I miss Marcin Gortat's PNRs. He really knew what he was doing.

Thomas Bryant should help our PNR offense. Being a 3 point threat opens up more options.
