Which is pretty much what I've been saying, honestly. And the Ds are actually suffering from the effects of conspiracy theories while the Rs are benefitting from it. It's something that bears not insignificant, thought, but if it gets framed as though Rs are suffering from conspiracy theorists and Ds are not, then any analysis is likely doomed from the outset.

Well enrollment in Higher Education is down for a variety of reasons - so we don't have that going for us...

And I think your characterization of the old GOP voters sitting around may be off - they are pissed off because they are still working.

I guess I'll spell it out.

Beyond that, the uneducated low income GOP voters are actually extremely politically active. They're much older and often retired or semi-retired and have the time sit around and listen to Rush Limbaugh all day, whereas the vast majority of uneducated low income Democrat voters are blacks and latinos, aren't nearly as politically active and spend far more time working day jobs.

Sorry I don't see the connection with conspiracy theories. Old uneducated white guys are more likely to be *racist* yeah because that's their upbringing and apparently people get more racist as they get older (I think?). But Americans in general are pretty dumb, even the "educated" ones, and I think you're underestimating how easily we are manipulated by what we see in social media. I think your hardcore conspiracy theorist is just as rare as your hardcore, fact-check-everything-before-he-posts-it skeptic. I've reposted complete fabrications myself several times, probably more than I'm aware of.

Do you think left wing conspiracy media is an untapped market or something? If there's money to be made in the left wing version of Info Wars, someone would have certainly broken into that market by now.

My theory for why there isn't left wing conspiracy media is that there's a big education gap between politically engaged Republicans and Democrats.

Honestly I think there's a huge untapped market for socialist/communist oriented media that the Dems would not touch with a ten foot f#cking pole.

Democrats do not need to own that space. Literally anyone with any range of political beliefs can start a media company. Look at the cottage industries popping up around conservative media. The Tomi Lahrens and Candace Owens of the world -- odds they actually believe anything they're saying?

I am with Zonk here - politically engaged Republicans may be more naïve then the politically engaged Democrats, but not by much.

I go to these events and most don't know a thing about where there local and state dollars go or even what an unfunded liability is... just saying. On both sides they are mostly single issue or two issue activists.

If only I could understand Marxism maybe I would. I follow a communist on Twitter who seems pretty erudite but for the life of me I can't disentangle what he says.

That is your big mistake, you don't need to understand the underlying philosophy. It just needs to mean what you want it to for you personally and for your followers.

Do you think Trump has any understanding of the Bible? Yet he has a rabid following among evangelicals.
Do you think Trump understands the constitution? Yet his influence on the judiciary is probably he biggest draw among mainstream Republicans.
Do you think Trump understands the legislative process? Yet Congress is effectively giving him complete support.
Do you think "Political Hands" understands anything? Oh wait bad example.

There's no such thing as left wing conspiracy theories?

Guess you've never seen the Rachel Maddow show before...

You can’t equate fact-based reporters like Maddow with likes of lunatic, fact-free spewers like Alex Jones and Sean Hannity.
