"The strategy mentioned when Deni was traded will only make sense if Kuzma and Kispert are also traded, maybe along with Jonas, Poole, and Brogdon. If that doesn't happen, saying Deni was traded due to his contract timeline not syncing with the younger players is all BS."
Am I delusional? Wasn't Deni's trade the result of his contract/age not lining up with the younger players' timeline? If so, someone please help me make sense of this deal?
Didn't fit the timeline because:
a) He is already good. Not on that developmental ramp. He helps us win, not lose. We need to bottom out, not grow. Yet.
b) he plays the same position as Bilal who needs developmental minutes, both to help us lose and for his own growth;
and Kuzma who helps us lose.
c) he plays the same position as the top 2 players in the upcoming draft, and the draft after that.
d) we were going to draft Sarr in the same position and role as Deni. Deni has shown an ability to fade or sulk when challenged for minutes at the spot he has rightly earned. Maybe he overcame it after we traded Rui. But maybe not. No matter what we need to play Sarr a ton before he will be worth his pick.
e) Deni's value was the highest it had ever been. Nobody else on a 15 win team was worth a bag of used kitty litter. We were unable to trade Kuz for value. A logjam at forward means the return for any player has suppressed value. They are splitting minutes and counting stats etc.
f) See a) above. We need to tank. Nothing is more important than landing a franchise star. We can load manage and rest any quality late career vets like Brogdon and Jonas if they are hurting the tank too much. You can't rest a productive young cat on his way up without denting his confidence and league value.
