Okay, I see what you mean. Obviously, that makes the pick much more valuable, but the 6th pick isn't a guaranteed star and I'd want guaranteed star in return for Arenas who is, when healthy, a superstar.

And I still like Haywood more than Kaman. The Bullets need defense and I don't see how it is possible to argue that Kaman is Haywood's equal defensively. As for the rest of their games, Haywood's PER is 18.51 and Kaman's is 17.64. I'm not touting PER as the final word on a player's value, but I think it is a useful tool and it doesn't tell me that Kaman is better than Haywood. Not by a long shot.

The only scenario that worries me is if Arenas should tell Ernie he wants to go. Ernie can say, more power to you, and stiff Arenas into signing for 10 mil or similar, or he can sign and trade. In which case we'd have to evaluate return packages.

I seriously doubt Arenas does that, but weirder things have certianly happened.

This Gilbert to the Clippers thread is interesting but consider
this....other than being from L.A.,why would Gil choose the
Clippers? Even with Brand and company they would still be
a 7th or 8th seed in the west. With the Wiz he has a
legit shot to come out of the east at some point.

President Donald Trump referred to African countries, Haiti and El Salvador as "shithole" nations during a meeting Thursday and asked why the U.S. can't have more immigrants from Norway.

If the Clips have an opportunity to draft O.J. Mayo, they'd be foolish to trade their '08 pick and I'd seriously doubt they'd do so just to clear cap space.

Besides, the original idea of sending the '08 pick to the Wizards in a S&T doesn't work. How do you agree to the details of a S&T before or during the NBA draft when free agency doesn't take place until weeks after the draft?

with Gil, anything is possible I suppose

but considering how the team has shaped up in his absence,
I would think he'd really want to come back and play here.
The city loves him. He's tight with the team. The team still
has plenty of upside with players like N1, AB, Pech and DMac
all with obvious potential. And he's got 2 AS fwds to play with.
Where is he going to do better than that?

He could try to bluff EG to drive up his price. But I think ultimately
he'd be fine staying here. But then again, we're talking Gil so who
knows.

For the Clippers, it's basically a choice between Elton and GA..and I think they'll choose Elton, so GA stays in DC!

But the same question, and if they decides to choose GA instead of Elton?:s

why not get rid of Arenas? He's made of glass and doesn't really make this team much better. caron, while an idiot, is the only one worth retaining.

Yeah, cause Arenas is ALWAYS hurt....he never got right, he'll get there.

..and this team is better with Arenas, we can't start this again.

Why is Caron an idiot?

Even if the Clippers somehow manage to trim their cap so that they can sign both Brand and Arenas, what exactly would motivate Gilbert to sign with them?

We're talking going from a perennial playoff team to a lottery team that plays in a conference where a 50 win team might not make the playoffs.

How on earth is that appealing to a player that's already made millions that is more interested in being on a competitive team that has a shot at the title than to be one of the highest paid players.

The Clippers simply do not fit the profile of a team that can compete for Gilberts services. The Sixers maybe, but the Clippers? No way.

Sadly, I think he's one of ours. Granted it's a small sample size (4 posts) but I did see him refer to the Wiz as

Why wouldn't you trade Gilbert for Brand? 1. Brand is so much better. 2. Brand is having a better year this year than Gil. 3. Gil can't stay healthy, while Brand is never hurt, and Gil probably won't ever get back. So why not? pull the trigger on this deal!

Spence wrote:The Clips have nothing we need, apart from Elton Brand and he's hurt. Haywood > Kaman and if you believe in Caron and Nick Young, Maggette, while an excellent player, would be superfluous. What the Bullets would need after trading Arenas is a young point guard and I don't think the Clips have got one ever since Shaun Livingston became the unluckiest person in North America. And with Gil on that team, the Clips would probably improve a lot so their 1st round pick wouldn't be worth much.

Count me out.

Haywood better than Kaman.......Laughable. Kaman averages 16/13/3 a game!! I'd take Kaman and their #1 pick and then hopefully land a good college pg with our #1 this year considering we'd be a hell of a lot bigger with Kaman, Haywood, Jamison(If we re-sign, and Blatche... We could get a guy like UCLA's pg Collison near the end of the 1st round...

Kaman/Haywood
Jamison/Blatche
Butler/McGuire/Mason Jr.
Stevenson/Young
Daniels/Collison

We've played well enough all year with Butler, Daniels, Jamison, etc...
