I see the lovechild of caron butler and antawn jamison, and all the tweenerism goes along with those genetics. He can drain threes but his FT% is still mediocre. He can throw down some thunderous dunks but his shotblocking is suspect. He's got pretty good rebounding numbers, but not NBA PF good (great for a SF). He's definitely a better PF candidate than some of the other tweeners out there like singleton or terrence jones but i don't see a gamechanger by any means. i mean, it's really easy to spot the good ones. Durant, Melo, etc. Collegiate 20/10 freshmen who sweep the POY awards. any other player... we really shouldn't be so quick to automatically label as slam dunks.
I see a lot of similarities between Joe Smith and Derrick Williams. Joe Smith was more of a Center/PF tweener, but they both had relatively low expectations initially, but dominated in college. There definitely have been worse examples of number 1 picks.
On other hand the is a possibility that he is a poor man's Karl Malone.
I think a lot of his NBA success, will depend on his height, reach and if he is done developing physically. If he is 6'6" with an ordinary reach I don't think he will be very successful. However if he is a legit 6'8" with a reach and adds some strength he could be a star.
