Would you give up McGee and the pick for Aldridge? Seems pricey but I don't know if Portland would even go for that unless they went in to full-on tank/rebuild mode.
That trade is a complete no-brainer to me.
Aside from adding a legit two way big, it removes the burden of projecting McGee's NBA future, gives us that second player to play alongside Wall and more importantly, gives us instant credibility as a destination for NBA vets/free agents.
It's easy to fall in love with some of the guys in this years draft class, but even with the amount of upside somebody like Davis has, we'd still be stuck with having to wait for him develop an NBA body and an NBA game.
You add LA, and with a few shrewd offseason moves you have an instant playoff team in the East. Gortat playing alongside Aldridge would give us a pretty formidable front court, and a team that features a legit post player may even make the resigning of Nick Young tenable.
Something tells me he may be far more effective shooting spot jumpers catching balls out of the post than he is in his current roll where he constantly ends up shooting contested jumpers.
I don't care how big the upside of some of those rooks have, that move is a franchise changer.
