Not really. If they take Irving and then move Flynn and Rubio for garbage, yeah, they'd be admitting that they ruined that draft. The drafting of Irving in and of itself, however, only says that they like Irving as an NBA prospect more than Flynn or Rubio, which is completely understandable.
They drafted 2 point guards in that draft and as far as I know, their front office still has high hopes for both.
They also have extremely high hopes for Love, Beasley, and Johnson. Definitely higher than their hopes for Flynn, and probably even higher than their hopes for Rubio (Beasley and Love at least).
When I am mocking this stuff I am trying to figure out what teams will do, not necessarily what they should do.
I can understand and respect this, but in that case, they'd take Jonas V. Kahn has said more than once that the team needs an athletic 4/5 in their rotation next to Love and Darko, Kahn (GM) and Ronzone (assistant GM) both love Euro players, and it wouldn't even be a huge reach (he's 6th in your mock).
Taking Irving means they are giving up on Flynn and also that they are trading Rubio. Taking Irving immediately hurts Rubio's trade value as well.
Flynn is going to get traded regardless of who Minnesota drafts because they have Rubio in the wings to be the future starter and they signed Ridnour to be the backup. Flynn just doesn't have a future with this team. With that said, there's no reason that they can't keep both Irving and Rubio for a year or so and then keep whichever one they like more and trade the other.
I'd be shocked if Kahn was willing to take another PG in the top 10 and essencially admit to ruining the draft 2 years ago. Not when he can hide behind the BPA arguement by taking Derrick Williams.
I'd be far, far, far more shocked if they took another Forward (who can only play Forward) when Minnesota's two best players (by far) are both Forwards and they just invested another top 5 pick on a Forward who they're trying to convert into a guard.
