How to upload animated GIF's and Youtube videos.

I had a basic question as far as how to upload GIF's and youtube videos. I would like to change my signature with an animated GIF and have saved it to my GFYCAT account. Thanks ahead of time for any assistance.

Get the direct link and put it in [img] tags, ie:

[img]http:gfycat.com/abcetc.gif[/img)

If you can't get a direct link, upload your gif to imgur and do it from there.

I got a pm asking for a little more info on the above, thought I would share my response here if it's of any help to anyone else.


I've had this issue a bit recently and haven't been able to figure it out exactly.

If it's a pic from Google images, you have to make sure you are getting the image address from the host website, rather than copying the address from the image search results. Basically, the image address should be relatively short, whereas the Google images search address will be a few lines long. It's also worth noting that the Google image search address has a time stamp, so the link from that search is no longer valid the next day.

The only other tip I can really give is make sure you're including the extension type (.jpg or .gif) in the image address. If you don't include the extension, the [img] tags are only being told a link to the image it wants to show, instead of getting the image itself.

Hope this helps, and apologies if it's not clear, I've only found this stuff out through trial and error over the years.
