I would also argue that with the known injury issues to Melo, Mark, and Miller the FO cannot claim competency by putting 5-7 guys on the roster who don't belong anywhere near a rotation.

Common sense dictates that an injury prone core needs a deep stable of quality backups.

The bottom like 8 roster spots are easily the worst in the league as evidenced by the team performance any time Melo isn't on the floor.

A serious FO with clear goals would not allow that to happen

I don't think them being in the rotation is all that different then most teams to be honest. Now if you want to make the case Nurkic and Green are overpaid? Yeah I am with you all the way but in reality Green and Nurkic would be rotation players on half the NBA teams right now. Salaun will improve and could very well prove to be a rotation quality player next year as well.

Exactly

Rolling out LaMelo with nobody else behind him that can even masquerade as a viable backup PG, let alone a starting PG has been a recipe for disaster, basically forever in this franchise's history.

It was a severe issue even in the Kemba days and he was a legit iron man here. Our new age Ramon Sessionses and Michael Carter-Williamses actually have to play a lot now, and that's a problem.

We really need a fringe starter level PG as a long-term backup for LaMelo. Somewhere around the D'Angelo Russell caliber. Can't be spending another season going 2-30 or whatever we are when Melo is out.

Same kind of issue behind Mark because Nurk is very washed, and I don't really trust Diabate as a real starter even though I like him as a backup to 3rd string.

I think you need to remember that we took Josh Green off the hands of the Mavs along with draft assets so they can sign Klay. Suns moved Nurk to us and even gave us a 1st rounder to take him. They are not valuable players, in fact if they had no contracts they might not be on any NBA rosters as free agents. I cannot find another NBA player who does less in even half the amount of mins Josh Green plays. Nurk is completely washed. Ain't no way can this franchise move forward with those two being any more than salary filler. If they're playing meaningful mins throughout the season, we are lottery bound again.

As for Okogie, I don't necessarily disagree with you on your assessment of him but at least he really does bring defensive energy to the rotation that we were told Josh Green would bring. Sure, his 3pt % is likely not really going to be anywhere near 40% it is with us in 7 games but he's like half the cost of Josh Green and gives us a defensive stopper. He shouldn't be playing big mins or anything, but I could see him as useful. I could also see us just not having him too and using that space elsewhere. But he's definitely more impactful than Josh Green or Nurk.
