Apparently. The tiebreakers I copied straight from nba.com. You can get ahead of divison winner but only with a better record according to that. Notice that NBA.com has Bucks ahead of us.

Regarding ESPN sucking - look at their western conference standings. Somehow they have Spurs fifth with .800%, ranked lower than BOTH Warriors and Clippers. I guess that' enough to tell you can't rely in their standings.

This team still doesn't have a super star. We don't want to make the playoffs just yet. Let's miss out on Wiggins and Parker before we give up and return to mediorcrity on purpose.

Well, we can make an argument that by giving up the pick owed to Chicago this year - thus not getting any help through draft - we strenghten our chances on Wiggins. Simply, I don't see enouch of a chance of landing someone significant this year to make me root against us. There are to many bad teams this year and we can't ourttank them all (and even if we do then that means nothing other then top4 pick). To me, last season was a unique effort to clear house in shortened season when ut was more bearable and know it is about building team frim ashes gathering more building blocks as much as we can get them without sacrifing anything. There can be 5 worse teams in our conference only this yeat and then it is hard to keep our draft chances high (I mean Orlando, Cleveland, Toronto, Washington, Detroit - one or two of them may get better record but that's it; then you have bad or tanking teams in western conference as well -> mid lotto pick at best).

What you are saying just improves our odds for next year, because the teams that pick ahead of us this year should improve more than us for the 14 Draft. All of those teams are better than we are on paper anyway. Add Shabazz to Cleveland or Detroit. Put a low post scorer like Zeller in Orlando. These teams can leave us in the dust very quickly.
