I can't stand Dwight and I really like Cody, so it makes me sick to imagine trading Cody and keeping Dwight around, but it might make the most sense because of our financial situation. Our biggest roster log jam is at center and Cody likely has the most trade value of any of our expendable players that are on long term contracts. Once Dwight expires we could always sign a cheap bruiser to be our 3rd center behind Willy and Frank.
I can't believe I'm saying this, but maybe our best option is to package Cody with our 2019 1st for the biggest upgrade we can get on the wing or at PF and then hopefully draft SGA or Mikal Bridges. We could also probably afford to get rid of Marv or MKG for salary relief if we got a good enough player for Cody + pick.
I do think that the odds favor Dwight being here another year. As you point out, the Hornets will need that space, so they either need to get space or another expiring back in whatever trades they do this summer if they want to move Howard.
As for our existing roster, MKG, Cody, and Marvin are definitely the most 'expendable' players. Lamb could easily start in MKG's place now. Ditto for Frank and Marvin. Cody is the most iffy to me. I like what he brings a lot more than I like what Dwight does on most nights. But yeah, Cody's health is such a big problem for both him and the team.
My dream scenario would be something like Howard for George Hill or MKG to the Bulls for cap space, making Dwight tradeable.
