But signing him to a max is a bad idea too. NBA teams need to get away from the idea that just because a player is fringe all-star level, then they automatically get a max. He hasn't done anything to deserve that contract.
So either trade him now, or try to keep him for less than a max.
This so much. We've seen a long list of teams max out guys just cause they can drop 20 a night, and then almost instantly regret (Poole, Barret, Tobias Harris, Herro).
Miles does absolutely nothing unique or special in terms of winning and impact.
We still be one of the worst teams in the league with or without him.
