Zeller should have stayed in school. He did not improve at all in my opinion from last year to this. Tyler is the better Zeller, and I don't like him either. Average NBA big, bench player.

Tyler Zeller is not better than Cody Zeller. Cody Zeller may not go on to become a all-star caliber player, but with his skill sets at the position I wouldn't be surprised if he did. I understand why most don't like Zeller for Charlotte in the top 5, but that doesn't mean that he's going to be a average bench big in the NBA. The kid has as much potential as any prospect in the lottery.

Chad Ford ‏@chadfordinsider 1h

Cody Zeller shooting the ball VERY well. 72% from NBA 3 point line in drills.

Dang. That would be such a nice fit next to Biyombo...

Byron Mullens can do this also in practice. I watched him do it before most home games. I don't want him either.

can you have to many white 7 foot three point shooters?'

Can we bring in Brad Lohaus to mentor them?

That he's been working on his guard skills and looks very comfortable handling the ball and shooting 3s. Zeller said he often did these things in high school but the IND coach wanted him the post. He shot 72% from 3 and 80% from the corner. He's even better in the midrange. The article does mention that according to a source the Bobcats are not high on him (possible smokescreen?). Compares him to Bosh and Alridge and points out his wing span and standing reach are not as good but that he posted higher athletic numbers.

EDIT - cant quote insider info. but thanks for the read :) - fats

i am secretly rooting for zeller. he fits our needs more than anyone in this draft, a power forward, who can score and make jumpers out of the paint and has a high bball IQ. we need a player like that in the worst way. if its true that he is converting his game from a center to a power forward and showing great outside shooting to go along with his speed and touch around the rim, then i agree he is undervalued right now.

I'd love to end up with him. Seems like he would be a enjoyable player to watch. Great fit next to Biz.

What he brings to the table is really everything we look for as a rim running big who can score in a variety of ways, but his tendency to struggle against length scares the shiz out of me. I know he's longer than anticipated, but I don't want a PF who has similar length to our (maybe) SG.

He's not what I'm looking for at all. I want a bruiser with a low post game that can rebound and defend.

As a PF his length is more than fine.

Zeller is a fine basketball player, but I think his hard ceiling is that of a borderline all-star. As regularly as he get his shot blocked in the paint against longer & more physical defenders worry me that he might lose confidence before reaching the matching potential of his skill sets

Really? His length is equal to our SG and shorter than our SF. Doesn't scream "fine" to me.

The guys he's most usually compared to:

Aldridge: 7'5.75"
Bosh: 7'3.5"
Zeller 6'10.75"

Then look at some of the other highly rated guys in this year's draft:

Adams: 7'4.5"
Noel: 7'3.75"
Len: 7'3.5" (unconfirmed)
Otto Porter (SF): 7'1.5"
Bennett: 7'1" (unconfirmed)
Muhammad (SG/SF): 6'11"
Plumlee: 6'11"
Zeller: 6'10.75"

it's undoubtedly an issue folks

if zeller had length he'd be in the discussion for the #1 pick. everyone in this draft has huge warts. its a matter of what flaws or negative traits we can live with.

ideal scenario for zeller is a trade down to the 7-9 range and grab him there + extra.

but if the cats arent interested, then moot point i guess. i'm still highly intrigued with bennett as well, but also concerned with his height and stamina.

I really like Cody if we move back a bit, not at #4. If we do drop back, I would love to have him in Charlotte and use another 1st on a SG. I think Cody would fit out needs nicely on the front line.

I wouldn't even mind him at 4 if somehow Oladipo and McLemore are off the board.
