Your #4 overall pick, ladies and gentlemen.

Higher expectations than last year’s #6 overall pick, of course, which were effectively “don’t trip over your own feet” and “don’t score on your own basket”. Progress!

 hey he is already outperforming a comparablish pick in Frank Kaminsky who was supposed to be a culture and locker room guy but was a pouty little baby day 1.

Did anyone ever consider Frank as being a culture and locker room guy? I never got that impression of him leading up to the draft that he was being considered for that reason. He always struck me as kind of an arrogant prick and that was certainly on display when he talked to s*** about the Hornets leading up to the draft process.

I always felt that that was more just desperation of the Hornets never-ending search for a stretch 5, especially after Cody showed that he really was not an outside shooter at all, despite those amazing empty gym workouts.

Kon is a better defender than Tre. The gap may close eventually but Tre’s defense at Texas was dreadful. Better lateral quickness doesn’t matter if you’re constantly missing assignments, losing your man, giving half effort. Kon isn’t anywhere close to elite, but he will be better than Melo, and might be a bit better than Miller, unless those guys improve a lot this offseason.

Tre can improve, as all these guys can, and probably will. But so can Kon in his own way. He was asked about where he wants to improve. He mentioned getting the most out of his physical abilities on defense. A couple of analysts commented that his defense was not bad, was actually really good, while acknowledging his athletic limits. They said he learns so quickly, never makes the same mistake twice in a game, focused and intense, max effort, fierce competitor.
I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.

Working hard at D play after play is every bit as important as making occasional big stops. Denial, positioning and pestering is half the battle.
